Summary
Daor Tagan is the 9th host of the Trill symbiont, and is currently the Executive Officer of the USS Ride. Having rose through the ranks in science, he is fascinated by the unknown, has a childlike sense of wonder about the galaxy as a whole, and never shirks from exploration.
Appearance
Daor is a Trill man in his mid-30s that people have called “striking.” He has a lean, athletic build, with warm medium brown skin. He has dark, nearly black hair worn long enough to fall around his ears and neck, but kept tightly pulled back to look professional in uniform.
Daor walks with a sense of purpose, and has a calm, self-assured nature. He has been called approachable and quietly friendly due to the way he interacts with both senior and junior officers.
Personality
Daor leads with empathy. Always, until it fails. Having had several lifetimes of experience, he has learned that most people just want to be heard, seen, and recognized (not to mention treated with a modicum of respect). He has found throughout his career in Starfleet that if you just sit down at a table, and truly listen without judgment, you can get to the bottom of just about anything.
Off duty, Daor does thoroughly enjoy cutting loose, but always ensures he maintains a professional and respectable presence, so that he doesn’t do anything to thoroughly embarrass himself, his crew, or Starfleet as a whole.
History
Early Childhood
Daor was born in 2368 in the capital city of Trill, Mak’ala. He has fond memories of his time as a child and teenager, having had a large and loving family, and receiving a good education.
In 2386, the summer before he went to Starfleet Academy, he went on a camping trip with one of his former instructors from primary school. During this trip, Professor Tagan took a very hard spill that it was clear he would not survive. They were effectively in the middle of nowhere, and the medic in their group asked who would be willing to take on the Tagan symbiont. Having had a lot of respect for the old man, Daor reluctantly agreed, and was joined, becoming the 9th host of Tagan.
Academy Years
Due to the unexpected joining, Daor’s first few months at the Academy were rough. It was decided after he received his first semester grades – and was shown to be lagging far behind the rest of his class – for him to take a hiatus, return to Trill, seek assistance from the symbiosis commission, and return to the Academy after a “gap year.”
Returning in 2387, Daor began to excel at his courses. While he had a wealth of experience in his mind now, he couldn’t help but be fascinated by the galaxy at large, and it was clear he preferred exploration, scientific discovery, and the absolute weird stuff that happened every day all around him.
First Cruise
Daor was assigned to the USS Coronation as an Ensign, in 2392, as a junior science officer. Being an older Ambassador class starship, it mostly stayed within the close-in Alpha and Beta Quadrant territories of the Federation. This allowed him to do a large amount of deep study, and really understand scientific principles and overall what to do and not do while assigned to a starship.
Second Cruise:
In 2395, Daor was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the USS Perihelion. This deep space assignment was where he really cut his teeth. Owing to his deep love of exploration as well as a showing of strong command fundamentals, he was promoted through the ranks to the eventual posting of Chief Science Officer aboard the Perihelion.
Third Cruise:
In 2399, Daor was promoted to Commander, and assigned to the USS Ride as the vessel’s executive officer. He’d never really striven for command, but as he was good at it he accepted the commission. He serves in this role at present day.
