Adam Callahan

Young Life

Adam grew up on the shores of Lake Armstrong on Earth’s moon. From a young age, a wild sense of curiosity about the unknown was an obvious trait. Frequent trips to San Francisco meant that Adam was able to visit Starfleet Academy often, and it was a given that he would join Starfleet once he was of age.

Starfleet Academy

Between the wanderlust and his wild curiosity, Adam fell quickly into the Sciences. For the first few years, he dabbled in various science tracks before he settled on xenobotany. He had the opportunity to serve as a midshipman aboard the USS Richter in his junior and senior years, and was able to go on several away missions with the science team.

USS Perihelion

Adam’s first post was on the USS Perihelion, a Nebula class starship, as a junior scientist. He found his three year stint on the large ship to be largely uneventful. Most of the time was spent in the labs, studying and cataloguing the materials that the science teams had brought back. After two years, when it had become painfully clear to him that he was unlikely to get any additional chances to go on away teams, or do any hands-on work, he requested a transfer to a different vessel.

USS Ride

Adam was transferred to the USS Ride, an older Excelsior class ship assigned to the far ends of the Beta Quadrant. He found a quick compatriot in the ship’s chief science officer, who shared his same sense of almost childlike wonder at the mysteries of the galaxy. Under her command, Adam finally felt like he was flourishing, and doing the real work he wanted to do.

He rose quickly through the lieutenant ranks, earning the rank of full lieutenant in 2385.

With the destruction of the Utopia Planitia Yards in 2385, several of the crew shuffled around to various other commands, and Adam was promoted to assistant chief science officer. It was at this time he began training on the command track as well. A few years later, in 2388, the Ride underwent the retrofit to the updated Excelsior II class. It was also at this time that Adam met his to-be husband, a Bajoran scientist named Vit Maran. They married in 2392, and have lived together aboard the Ride since, with Maran serving as a civilian xenoarchaeologist.

In 2391, the Ride’s long-time Chief Science Officer received her own command, and Adam was promoted to her role.

In 2395, Adam was promoted to First Officer. He’d had no real desire to command, but due to a lack of capable officers in the field with command training, he’d accepted it and found that he enjoyed it. He spent four years as First Officer before being promoted to Captain and being given command of the Ride.
