Celandra, or Cel to her close friends, grew up following her father around through his various posting aboard Federation starships in his capacity as a Diplomatic Officer. The circumstances of her birth were complicated, to say the least, and while she knew her mother, the two didn’t have a great deal of interaction with each other. Even her relationship with her half-siblings was incredibly strained, as she shared almost nothing in common with them outside of a genetic lineage. Her father, Jonathan, did the best he could to raise the child, though many would say that his method of ‘hands-off’ parenting left much to be desired. Despite this, Celandra developed a healthy sense of right and wrong, and didn’t cause many, if any, problems while living aboard starships.
When Celandra was 15, her father left active service two settled into a quiet life on Gamma Ceti, where her father took up a posting at the local Starfleet Academy Annex as an associate professor part time. By the time Celandra was 18, she’d already had several Academy classes under her belt, thanks to the Annex having exchange programs with the local schools. She had used that time to muddle through the science related courses prior to actually enrolling, so that she could skip them in her curriculum as her grades in those classes had been passing, but only barely. Her path of study focused primarily in the Security and Tactical realm, though her long exposure with the legal aspects of her father’s diplomatic work gave her a solid foundation as a minor field of study. Unlike her father, however, Celandra had no desire to seek higher levels of education in any field of study she showed aptitude in, stating that her father was the only doctor that the family required.
In her final year of Academy training, she managed to convince her father to send a letter of recommendation for the Delta Exploration Initiative program being hosted at the Barzan II Annex. Celandra felt it would be a great opportunity for her to carry on the family tradition helping to explore a region of space that her mother had reportedly went missing in.
