Summary
Byr Th’zhorihr is a seasoned Andorian Starfleet Captain and an accomplished diplomat, having previously captained the Ambassador – class emissary, USS Galatine.
Appearance
An Andorian Male in his late 40s, Byr Th’zhorihr has pale cobalt – blue skin and the prehensile antenna typical to his people.
He has short, neatly kempt white hair and dark blue eyes. His face is careworn and lined with the evidence of his years.
He stands 5ft 10ins tall and is in good shape for his age. He carries himself easily and is always impeccably turned out.
An old dualling – wound to the hip, from his more headstrong younger days at the Academy, means that Byr walks with a slight limp in his left leg. He could have easily had the injury treated and the impediment removed long ago, but he prefers to keep it as a permanent reminder of the true cost of recklessness.
Personality
Byr is patient and open minded. A long career in command and experience as a diplomat has taught him the value of listening and he tends to consider all possible perspectives before making a decision to act. After all you can only act once.
A steady leader, as a former Operations officer, Byr understands that a starship is a complex machine and the most vital component to its successful operation are its people.
Whilst his wry smile hides his true feelings, Byr appreciates the importance of presenting a consistent figure of authority to his crew and prefers to spend his off duty time reading. He has a voracious capacity for literature produced by all cultures and favours books on history, sociology and psychology (as well as a guilty pleasure in pulp detective novels).
He maintains the tradition of dining with his Executive Officer once a week and the senior staff once a month, knowing that the dinner table represents an effective forum to put his people at ease and let them communicate any pressing issues that the formality of duty may make awkward.
History
Byr Th’zhorihr graduated Starfleet Academy in San Francisco in 2375 AD and was assigned to the Steamrunner – class Heavy frigate, USS Eisele, where he served as an Operations Officer until 2381 AD.
On attaining the rank of Lieutenant, Byr switched career to the command track and began his Bridge Officer training, assuming the role of Flight Control Officer aboard the Galaxy – class explorer, USS Pegasus where he served until 2386, when he transferred to the Nebula – class exploratory cruiser, USS Denver.
In 2392, Byr was promoted to the rank of Commander and assumed the position of Executive Officer aboard the Inquiry – class exploratory cruiser, USS Protector, where he served with distinction.
Upon his promotion to Captain, Byr Th’zhorihr was given command of the Ambassador – class emissary, USS Galatine and was instrumental in strengthening the bonds forged between the United Federation of Planets at the Children of Tama and established a reputation as a reasoned diplomat.
In 2402 AD, Captain Th’zhorihr was tasked with the restoration to service of the Ross – class explorer, USS Vanguard, after the vessel and her crew were assimilated by the Borg Collective in 2401 AD. After a year spent in the yards at Starbase 72, the Vanguard was re – crewed and restored to service, forming part of the Prophyrion Carrier Division – assigned to duty along the former DMZ.
