Michael Angelus

Early Life (2365-2381)

Michael was born in the Sol System, Terra Luna, along Lake Armstrong on December 11th, 2365. His father was a Human Non-Commissioned Shipyard Engineer, and his mother was a Betazoid Registered Nurse. He spent most of his childhood bouncing between Luna, Earth, and Mars, depending on his parents’ duties, at various stations and shipyards. Thankfully, there were many other children in the same position for him to play with.

When he was 8, while with his mother on Tranquility Base, the station was placed on lockdown status during the battle of Sector 001, this also coincided with the awakening of his telepathic powers, causing an influx of pain, fear, and depression in the young child which is mother was forced to medically sedate him. The following few months, his mother left for Betazed to try to coordinate a more suitable environment, feeling that the rise of tension in the Dominion War would only continue to negatively impact her son. Unfortunately, the Dominion captured Betazed while she was away, and Michael never got to see or hear from her again.

Left with just his father and fearful of losing connection to his last living relative, Michael bonded closely with his dad, absorbing the strenuous work ethic his father had developed as a coping mechanism. Tragedy struck once again, as he was with his father on the Luna Shipyards when the Breen attacked Earth. Though they were safe from the initial harm, the young Betazed could still feel the emotional shockwave from the aftermath. Unlike the Borg attack 2 years prior, this burned a sense of determination and retribution in his heart.

Starfleet Academy (2382-2386)

Due to the recommendation put forth by the Captain of Luna Shipyards (thanks to his father’s connections), Michael was allowed to enroll in Starfleet Academy a year early at the age of 17. He had already been groomed by other fellow officers in his father’s field for the last few years in preparation, and blew away his entrance exam. The young cadet immediately came under fire by other students due to his telepathic abilities, with various false accusations of cheating and mind reading (despite most courses being held electronically). He even resigned from the Academy’s Boxing League due to such accusations, though no formal charges of misconduct were found.

An independent study of his telepathic abilities was conducted by a Betazoid Proctor from the ‘Academy’, and found that though only half Betazoid, his abilities were slightly above the norm for half-bloods, given that he had telepathic abilities and not just limited to empathic ones. It was in this exchange that Michael was able to uncover that the Proctor was a member of Starfleet Intelligence sniffing for promising new operatives. Michael quickly turned down this avenue, not wanting to be limited to a roll of a mind-reading tool.

Deciding to keep his head down and out of the spotlight of his classmates, Michael simply focused on keeping his grades up but would deliberately throw away a paper or two to ensure he did not outshine the others. To combat this mental fatigue, he turned to the more sensual nature of his adolescence, much to the admiration of his female classmates.

In his Junior Year, he ‘sobered up’ so to speak following the attack on Utopia Planitia, and in 2387, he graduated the Academy’s Bridge Officer Tract, 87^th Percentile of his Class with a Major in Astronautical Tactics and Statistics. (Though his professors theorize that if he truly applied himself, he would have easily been 95^th-98^th percentile.)

USS Metis (Reliant Class) – 2387-2390

Newly graduated Ensign Angelus was assigned to the Reliant-class USS Metis and was immediately deployed to the Romulan border to assist in humanitarian aid following the Hobus star supernova. Michael was assigned to the Operations Division and found a niche assignment as Ships Quartermaster, maintaining supply logs and logistics, which kept him focused and busy. In 2389, due to his positive work performance, he was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade.

USS Geronimo (Akira Class) – 2390-2394

LTJG Angelus is reassigned to the Akira-class USS Geronimo and placed along the Federation-Klingon border to address the invasion of Federation Home worlds by the Sovereignty of Kahless. Due to his meticulous nature as a Quartermaster, he is reassigned to Flight Control Officer for the starship’s multitude of combat fighter craft. Managing both mission logistics and craft maintenance, his dedication to his work once again finds him promoted to full lieutenant in 2391.

USS Callisto (Luna Class) – 2394-2397

In 2394, Lt. Angelus is once again transferred to the Luna Class USS Callisto as a Security Officer. Michael sees many in-field missions as Starfleet Intelligence works with the Callisto to investigate clandestine operations from remnants of House Mo’Kai. Michael is once again approached by Starfleet Intelligence due to the operational effectiveness of his telepathy, but he once again declines. In 2396, he is once again promoted to Lt. Commander and is made Shift Lead of the Security Department’s Delta-Shift.

USS Kennedy (Sovereign Class) – 2397-2400

At the behest of his former captain, Michael is once more reassigned to the Sovereign Class USS Kennedy, as a means to further his career advancement and also give some separation from SFI personnel who were still trying to pressure him. With no security positions opened, Michael was assigned as Bridge Tactical Officer of Beta Shift and served in the Beta Quadrant performing escort and patrol missions in and around Cardassian Space.

USS Nakatomi (Southerland Class) – 2400-2402

The position of Executive Officer opens up on the Southerland Class USS Nakatomi, and Lt. Commander Angelus is recommended for the position. However, after nearly a year and a half in his post, disaster strikes. While performing astronomical surveys in the Ionite Nebula, the starship is struck by a cloaked, fast-moving runabout vessel controlled by Lethean Pirates. The Bridge is compromised, as are the first few decks, due to the sudden collision.

Thinking the Captain is killed-in-action, Michael takes command as Acting Captain. His first act is to restore power to the aft torpedo launchers, which allow him to fire a distress beacon outside of the nebula to call for aid. But before they can re-route power to continue ship-wide rescue efforts, Lethean Pirate ships close in to attack, their ultimate goal to kill the crew and strip the federation vessel for parts.

The captain, who had survived the initial collision, makes it to the secondary bridge and accuses Michael of usurping his command and criticizing his command decisions, mid-battle. Thankfully, two Federation vessels arrive to render aid and rescue, fending off the pirates. However, the Nakatomi had suffered too much damage and suffered a warp core breach, the crew barely managing to escape in time. In the end, 272 of 750 officers remain.

Embarrassed by the ordeal, the captain pins the blame and loss of life and ship on Michael and files for him to be court-martialed. Though the JAG office finds no credible evidence or wrongdoing on Michael’s part, he is still demoted in rank over the ordeal and re-assigned while a further forensic investigation is conducted.

Assignment to the 4^th Fleet (2402-Present)

Michael is reassigned to Task Force 47 of the 4^th fleet until his investigation is concluded. This is where he shall begin his journey with Bravo Fleet.
