Summary
Rexy is obsessed with ancient Earth self-help audiobooks and tries to apply their cheesy wisdom to everything. From “manifesting positive warp core flow” to quoting 21st-century motivational speakers during red alerts, Bhrex is a well-meaning ball of awkward optimism. She also has a habit of ending team briefings with finger guns and a “Let’s crush this, team!” to groans and complaints from others.
Some have debated reporting her to senior staff for harassment for constantly trying to get the crew to join her “Gratitude Log” circle, especially during emergencies. Because you’d never want something bad to happen and punch out, leaving some bad vibes hanging out near the warp core.
Senior Officer’s Note:
I actually think it’s kinda funny. And because she’s sort of annoying to the others? They actually do their work harder just to avoid being sucked into her silliness. Now that’s that I call positive manifestation! Ha! – Chief Engineer Dex.
Appearance
She keeps her hair shaved on the sides so they don’t obstruct her breathing tubes. She also likes that it’s less hassle and maintenance. A lesson she picked up on when talking to the guys about how long it takes them to do their hair versus how long it used to take her to do her own. Now with the extra time she saves she can be in Engineering faster to start meditating and getting everyone’s vibrations in a better place.
Personality
Endearing, endlessly upbeat, and always trying to “align the energy of the warp core with the energy of the crew.” She finds the old earth psuedo science to be a point of intense interest. How such wild ideas went uncontested and yet sometimes had some measure of help. Despite her offbeat methods, Bhrex is surprisingly competent—often stumbling into solutions by blending engineering know-how with weird pseudo-philosophy. Things often work out for her because she manifests it… with a replicator.
History
Rexy grew up on Barzan II. When the wormhole next to their world turned out to be a lemon, her family decided that in order for her to have the best possible future, she needed to join Starfleet. While there, Bhrex initially fell into a deep bout of depression. On a whim, some of her fellow cadets suggested she check out some self-help books from the historical section of the library. And that was the day Rexy turned it all around.
She embraced change. She embraced positivity. She manifested her success. From that day forward, she got solid grades and performance reviews. And she began to annoy her fellow cadets with her catch phrases and unwarranted or unsolicitied boundless optimism.
On graduation she was posted to the Rubidoux in engineering. She majored in operations, but she liked being near warp cores too. She called them the central chakra of starships. She annoys most of her peers, but her endless positivity is great for morale, so her presence is tolerated in most of the lower decks groups.
