Early Life (2347 to 2365)

Sophia Rodriguez was born on July 12, 2374, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to a loving family of engineers and scientists. Her parents, Dr. Maria Rodriguez and Dr. Carlos Rodriguez, encouraged Sophia’s curiosity and passion for learning from a young age.

Growing up in a household that valued knowledge and innovation, Sophia was exposed to various scientific and technological pursuits. She spent countless hours building models, conducting experiments, and learning from her parents’ experiences. Sophia’s natural aptitude for engineering and problem-solving became apparent early on, and her parents nurtured her talents with enthusiasm.

Sophia attended the prestigious Escuela Secundaria Superior de San Juan, where she excelled in advanced courses in physics, mathematics, and computer science. Her dedication to her studies earned her top honors, and she was actively involved in various extracurricular activities, including robotics clubs and science fairs.

During her secondary education, Sophia participated in several pre-Academy programs, including the Starfleet Academy’s Summer Engineering Program and the Federation’s Science and Technology Initiative. These experiences not only deepened her understanding of engineering and scientific principles but also instilled in her a sense of purpose and commitment to serving the greater good.

With her parents’ guidance and encouragement, Sophia set her sights on attending Starfleet Academy. Her outstanding academic record, combined with her passion for exploration and service, made her an ideal candidate for the Academy’s rigorous engineering program. Sophia’s acceptance into Starfleet Academy marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey, one that would take her to the farthest reaches of the galaxy and forge unbreakable bonds with her fellow cadets and crewmates.

Starfleet Academy (2365 to 2369)

Sophia Rodriguez’s four years at Starfleet Academy were marked by academic excellence, personal growth, and lasting friendships.

Sophia’s first year at the Academy was a whirlwind of excitement and adjustment. She quickly settled into her engineering coursework, impressing her instructors with her natural aptitude for warp propulsion systems and advanced materials. Sophia also joined the Academy’s Robotics Club, where she met her future friends and study group partners, including Cadet Kirok Skyrunner.

During her sophomore year, Sophia’s academic performance continued to shine. She earned top grades in her engineering and physics courses, and her research project on advanced propulsion systems was selected for presentation at the Academy’s annual Science and Engineering Fair. Sophia also began to explore her interests in leadership and command, attending seminars and workshops on strategic operations and tactical decision-making.

Sophia’s junior year was marked by increased responsibility and challenge. She was selected as a squad leader for her engineering lab group, where she honed her skills in team management and problem-solving. Sophia also began to focus on her specialization in warp propulsion systems, working closely with her academic advisor, Professor Lisa Nguyen. Her research project on warp core optimization earned her a coveted spot as a presenter at the Federation’s annual Engineering Conference.

In her final year at the Academy, Sophia served as a cadet officer, leading a team of underclassmen in a senior design project focused on developing a new propulsion system for deep space exploration. Her team’s project earned top honors, and Sophia was awarded the prestigious Starfleet Academy Engineering Award. She graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a specialization in Warp Propulsion Systems.

Throughout her time at the Academy, Sophia formed lasting friendships with her classmates, including Kirok Skyrunner, with whom she began a romantic relationship. Sophia’s close-knit group of friends, including Kirok, Cadet Antonio Hernandez, and Cadet Jaxson Lee, provided a supportive network throughout her Academy years.

USS Michigan, NCC 61914 (2369 to 2375)

Ensign Sophia Rodriguez was assigned to the Excelsior II class starship, USS Michigan, NCC-62914 in 2369. Her first posting on the USS Michigan was in Security, as a junior officer. She was committed to her duties and performed excellently, on multiple away missions, where she clearly demonstrated bravery and quick thinking. She helped to collaborate with senior officers on creating and eventually implementing improved security measures, which helped repel an attempted alien incursion. Due to her outstanding thinking and performance to her duties, she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade in 2371 and was transferred to the Bridge station of Navigation.

Lieutenant JG Rodriguez served as Navigator on the USS Michigan from 2371 to 2372. She demonstrated exceptional skills in astronavigation, including finding a quick and safe travel route through a dark matter nebula, during a medical emergency rescue mission, when time was of the essence. Her quick thinking saved a whole colony on an alien world. She was once again cited by her commanding officer for exceptional performance of her duty and was awarded an early promotion to the rank of full Lieutenant in 2372 and was granted a transfer to the Bridge Operations Officer.

Late in 2372, Lieutenant Rodriguez took the Bridge Officer’s test and passed with a near perfect score, allowing her access to the command track, and was given the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

While she served as Bridge Operations Officer on the USS Michigan, in early 2373, Lieutenant Commander Sophia Rodriguez performed her duties flawlessly, by demonstrating exceptional skills in managing the ship’s resources during a major survey mission at the start of 2373, which lasted several months. She stayed on the USS Michigan, as Operations Officer, from early 2373 to mid 2375, where she requested, and was granted a transfer from the USS Michigan to the USS Thunderdragon.

USS Thunderdragon, NCC-63832 (2375 to 2402)

When Lieutenant Commander Rodriguez transfered to the USS Thunderdragon, she was assigned as Gamma Shift Operations Officer in July 2375. She proudly served from July 2375 until late 2377. In late 2377, Rodriguez was transferred to Alpha Shift Operations Officer and third in command, after a tragic incident that killed the third officer. She served her position with distinction until 2380, when Rodriguez was promoted to the rank of Commander and the Thunderdragon’s Executive Officer.

Commander Sophia Rodriguez proudly served as the Thunderdragon’s First Officer from 2380 to 2387. During that time, she was responsible for successfully making first contact with three different aliens species who had just discovered warp drive. She also helped build sturdy friendships with these alien civilizations, to further bolster the Federation.

In 2387, the previous Captain of the USS Thunderdragon was promoted to Rear Admiral and posted to a Starbase. His last orders and recommendations was to suggest that Starfleet Command assign Commander Sophia Rodriguez to command the USS Thunderdragon and also given the rank of Captain.

Captain Rodriguez successfully commanded the USS Thunderdragon from 2387 until February 2402, when all subspace contact with the USS Thunderdragon was cutoff, due to the Vaadwaur Blackout effect. The Thunderdragon was officially listed as missing, until her husband, Captain Kirok Skyrunner, led a rescue team after accidentally encountering them the same way the Thunderdragon was caught up with, a strange comet.

Captain Skyrunner finding his wife and two other survivors from the Thunderdragon alive and held ‘prisoner’ by an alien race know as the Kyrennei. After First Contact discussions, the Kyrennei allowed Captain Rodriguez and her survivors to be ‘rescued’ by her husband. Captain Rodriguez was folded into the command structure of the USS Carlsbad, under her husband’s command .

USS Carlsbad, NCC-73110 (2402 to 2402)

Now officially part of the command structure of the USS Carlsbad, Executive Officer Captain Sophia Rodriguez fit in well under her husband’s command, Captain Kirok Skyrunner, in early 2402.

The most outstanding note to her service record is while being the Executive Officer on the Carlsbad. During the final campaign operation, which was a widely coordinated galactic effort, Captain Rodriguez was in command of the USS Carlsbad as she led a combined Carlsbad/Kyrennei battle group against a Vaadwaur battle group that was defending a Vaadwaur Blackout Station, a station that was a piece of the entire Blackout Effect galaxy wide. While she keep the defending Vaadwaur ships busy, her husband, Captain Kirok Skyrunner, led a commando style raid on the station, taking it over and shutting down the Blackout effect and destroying the station.

After stopping the attempted Vaadwaur invasion campaign, Captain Rodriguez had no time to rest, as she had to deal with another conflict…of a personal nature. With her adrenaline dropping off from the Vaadwaur campaign, the buried emotions, that she kept buried inside, suddenly came to the surface. Those emotions came from the unprocessed grief from the loss of the Thunderdragon and her crew. It hit her harder then a photon torpedo. Not only did she have to find a way to deal with her own emotions, but as First Officer, she also had to help the crew with theirs.

She ended up finding a way to deal with the emotional baggage from those losses, with the help of the new ship’s counselor. Another note on her record is she helped strengthen the relationship between the Carlsbad and the Kyrennei by granting the Kyrennei request to have five of their people, their current leader and her top lieutenants, to join the Carlsbad’s crew.

Just when she was thought the personal battles were over, she was hit with another one…a General Court Martial hearing for the loss of the Thunderdragon. It was during this personal battle that she actually was afraid of this one. With her strong, courageous husband by her side during the entire hearing, and knowing the whole Carlsbad crew had her back, she ended up coming through the hearing.

Captain Sophia Rodriguez was found cleared of any wrongdoing and the official record for the USS Thunderdragon having been settled, she was allowed to carry out her duties as Captain Skyrunner’s Executive Officer on the USS Carlsbad.

In mid August 2402, Captain Sophia Rodriguez helped carry out an exploration mission the USS Carlsbad was given in the Shackleton Expanse. They were given am assigned area to explore. On the way to the Shackleton Expanse, the Carlsbad has to detour to rescue the Chief Engineer and Operations Officer’s, who went missing as they were returning to Starbase 72 from Earth, while on authorized shore leave.

When the missing officers were rescued, by an away team lead by Captain Rodriguez, they also encountered two abandoned Jem Hadar soldiers on the alien jungle moon. The Jem Hadar soldiers, not addicted to the White, offered an exchange…allowing the missing officers to be rescued in exchange for passage for the Jem Hadar to go with them. After a conversation with her husband…and Commanding Officer, the Jem Hadar were allowed to join the crew, bolstering its Security Department.

While in the Shackleton Expanse, in December 2402, the Carlsbad explored two full sectors. In those two sectors, three new star systems were fully mapped out, each system having multiple gas giants…a Stellar Cartography dream. One of the Class M planets in those three systems there was archaeological evidence that the planet’s civilization had to deal with some kind of pandemic, where all grain types of plant life had been completely eaten to the point of not being able to regrow.

Also, in December 2402, while exploring an uncharted Mutara Class nebula, that had an unique pulsar star in it, the Carlsbad detected a distress signal from an alien ship…the T’ren di-ki. That was a First Contact situation that the Carlsbad has accomplished, even though Captain Skyrunner led the away team to rescue an injured T’ren di-ki alien crew member. That rescue led to the Carlsbad taking on a very dangerous mission…saving the T’ren di-ki homeworld from a dimensional anomaly.

The T’ren di-ki look very similar to the Tholians in physical appearance. After the Carlsbad towed the damaged T’ren di-ki ship to their homeworld, the senior officers were invited to an official dinner function on Krystosia, the T’ren di-ki homeworld. This was the official First Contact situation and the start of a friendship between the USS Carlsbad and the T’ren di-ki people. It was cemented in strong friendship when the Carlsbad was successful in saving Krystosia from destruction.

Unfortunately, in the aftermath of the mission, Captain Rodriguez was seriously injured while attending the First Contact dinner ceremony with the T’ren di-ki leadership in mid December 16, 2402. While she was injured, the Carlsbad went on to complete its rescues mission with the T’ren di-ki in saving their homeworld, though took serious damage.

In late December 2402, Captain Sophia Rodriguez started to regain consciousness and recover from medically induced come she was out under. She was starting to recover from her serious head injuries, and the medically induced coma she received from the interdimensional rift that happened near the T’ren di-ki homeworld. She fully woke up from her coma and recovered from the moderate concussion on January 1, 2403, just as the Carlsbad has just discovered a dying white dwarf star cataloged as BPM 37093.

While the Carlsbad was conducting a science survey on the ‘Diamond Star’ that was named BPM 37093, the Carlsbad was attacked by another Duras family friendly Vor’cha class warship, crippling the ship and seriously injuring Captain Rodriguez again. The Kyrennei showed up, offering to help repair the Carlsbad and heal Sophia’s underlying head injuries, from the concussion, that was reaggravated from the Vor’cha attack.

In late January 2403, Captain Skyrunner gave the order to have his ship and his wife rescued. Her injuries were serious at the time, but not life threatening. Kaelara offered Kyrennei medical assistance as they have advanced medical technology. The simple medical procedure became a seriously complicated mess, but Captain Rodriguez did manage to pull through that and made a full recovery.

While the USS Carlsbad was getting repaired inside the Kyrennei space dock in orbit of the Kyrennei homeworld, Captains Skyrunner and Rodriguez enjoyed a much needed shore leave, where they managed to reinforce their emotional connections.

USS Phoenix, NCC-76553 (2403 to Present)

When the USS Carlsbad arrives back home to Starbase 72, the crew was given a short shore leave. After shore leave was over, Captain Skyrunner and his crew were reassigned the Ross class starship, USS Phoenix. The first official mission for the Phoenix under the command of Captain Skyrunner was a routine shakedown cruise, so that the crew can get used to the new ship. During that cruise, the Phoenix encountered, roughly, a brand new supernova. Captain Rodriguez, under the orders from her husband, Captain Skyrunner, was in charge of repairing the ship while her husband commanded a science survey mission in a runabout.

While the science survey was being conducted, Captain Rodriguez led the USS Phoenix in a two on one space battle with two aliens carrier ships. Captain Rodriguez gave the order to launch Phoenix’s new fighters, a Valkyrie Squadron and the Kyrennei Squadron, called The Obsidian Talons. The fighters and Phoenix, in a coordinated plan, managed to destroy one alien carrier ship and the other was seriously damaged, while taking minor damage only.

When the battle with the alien carrier ships was over, the runabout was escorted back to the ship by Valkyrie Wing Four. Somehow, on the flight back, the runabout and its crew, Captain Kirok Skyrunner, Chief Engineer Catersha, Chief Science Officer Soyara Amara, Junior Science Officer Aximo, and Navigator Lisa Nguyen, were somehow ‘displaced’ into an alternate reality and doppelgangers were ‘displaced’ into this reality.

In April 2403, Sophia told him some personal news, that she was pregnant, the doppelganger Kirok reacted like he did not her or know what she was talking about. That is what led to the doppelgangers being exposed. This switch of people is only a small thread to a much larger galactic crisis that has just started up.

After finding out her husband and other crew members were ‘displaced’ into an alternate universe, she was briefed, and accepted, a highly dangerous rescue operation. That mission was to go into the alternate universe, via a stable portal near Starbase 80, find and rescue the ‘displaced’ people, before the interdimensional aliens called the Loom, found and erased them.

Captain Rodriguez, knowing she is newly pregnant, now has been handed a highly dangerous rescue mission, bravely takes on the mission given her and her crew. They enter the stable portal near Starbase 80 and enter the alternate universe. Once there, they find the leader of a Resistance movement, Chancellor Kirok. They both decide to work together to rescue the ‘displaced’ from the depths of the K’Zhit Alliance homeworld.

Captain Rodriguez, determined to get her husband, and father to their soon to be child, led the Resistance fleet into invading the K’Zhit home star system. After breaking through very tight defenses, she led the Phoenix to the K’Zhit homeworld and sent a commando raid down to get her people, who were given public execution sentences from the K’Zhit King.

After the commando teams found and rescued the ‘displaced’, they came back to the ship. The USS Phoenix, with the remains of the Resistance fleet, barely escaped the incoming K’Zhit reinforcements. Captain Rodriguez led her ship back to the portal that is near Starbase 80 and back to their own reality.

After going into the stable portal to return home, they end up in a totally different universe altogether. When Phoenix arrived in this different reality, they find the Borg had conquered the whole galaxy.

After being discovered by this reality’s Borg, Phoenix, under the command of Captain Sophia Rodriguez, bravely fought off a Cube, while traveling to the location of a pre Borg signal, hoping to get home.

The Phoenix ends up getting captured when fighting off three Borg Cubes at once. After being captured, Phoenix was brought to the Borg command complex, where Captain Rodriguez confronted the Mother Entity, who was an assimilated version of the human form of the V’Ger probe, the former Lieutenant Illia.

When the Mother Entity threatened to assimilate the whole crew of the Phoenix, including her 5 month unborn baby, with her senior officers supporting her, she activated the Phoenix’s auto destruct system, completely destroying the Phoenix, the Borg Cube that captured her, and the entire Borg command complex, by rupturing the Omega particle power core.

However, at the moment of the destruction of the Phoenix, she was taken away from that moment and confronted by a member of the Q Continuum. During this moment , she was reunited with her, at that moment, dead husband, Kirok. When pressed for an explanation, this Q, said he was being punished by the Continuum for breaking the rules. With that, and a confrontation with the John de Lancie’s Q, this Q said that he was slightly fascinated by humans.

With that statement, Captain Sophia Rodriguez, her entire crew, and the USS Phoenix were all resurrected and given a second chance, knowing that some day, they must repay this generous Q.
