Summary
An accomplished physician, who specializes in emergency medicine. Adin is known for being resourceful in working with little modern-day medical equipment. He leans on his rural/poor upbringing and exposure to rural medicine in the approach he takes in providing care to his patients which has seen him have success in several less-than-ideal care provision scenarios in his Starfleet career so far.
Appearance
Personality
Adin is direct and unfiltered like many other Betazoids, it is embedded into who he is as a person. He speaks his mind without apology. When it comes to taking care of people in their time of need, although his bedside manner can be a bit gruff, he does sincerely care about their well-being – this shows in moments of compassion and empathy that shine through at times in those care moments.
History
Adin was born shortly before the start of the Dominion War on Betazed. His family lived simple and unprivileged lives in a rural/remote area of Betazed, his father a rural physician and his mother a teacher. He was very young during the occupation of the Dominion and thankfully does not recall the harsh realities of the occupation.
After the war, his family remained on Betazed to rebuild their lives but it was especially hard times. Adin often accompanied his father on physician house calls and in service of those in need. His father instilled a hard work ethic within him but also taught him to be extremely resourceful in the realities of scarcity they experienced in his childhood and youth.
Adin’s relationship with his father went sour when he decided to pursue his formal physician training through Stafleet. His father had been determined for him to remain on Betazed and take over his practice. He went against the wishes of his father and worked hard to pass entrance examinations with the assistance of his mother.
He enjoyed every moment he spent at the Academy and in formal training to become a physician. Adin thrived at the Academy but never quite got used to the modern conveniences and privileges life on Earth offered. He often longed for quieter times and the life he had back on Betazed, despite the fact he had every reason not to.
After graduation from the Academy, Adin served on both starships and a starbase – this ensured a well-rounded residency for him and his emergence into experienced practice. He participated in direct response to several medical crises on less privileged worlds through rapid response teams, work he enjoyed immensely as it was very much ‘roughing it’ in a sense.
Most recently, he has been reassigned to starship duty onboard the USS Pioneer – a welcome transfer, as he preferred the smaller quarters and more mobile medicine opportunities offered by more frequent interstellar travel.
