The bridge of the Triumph was eerily quieter than it normally was as they traveled to their destination. Everyone seemed to be focused on whatever they were working on, keeping their mind occupied. Dedre Rar had part of her station transferred over to the center chair, while a science officer was also sitting at her station monitoring things.
“Sir?” Came the confused voice of the young ensign sitting at the science station.
Dedre looked over at the ensign with a raised eyebrow. “What is it?”
“I am picking up something strange that I can’t exactly pinpoint what it is, but it is about thirty minutes ahead of us.” The ensign replied which caused Dedre to stand up from the chair she was sitting in walking over to the station to take a look herself. Tapping a few buttons she began to pinpoint what the signal was. It took a few moments for her to get a clear enough reading which caused her to almost gasp.
“Commander Trol to the bridge,” Dedre said after tapping her commbadge.
A few moments later Aleish Trol emerged from the ready room looking at Dedre who was standing at the science station. “Report,” she ordered.
“We are picking up a Borg homing signal on our sensors,” she began to explain. “It is thirty minutes straight ahead of us,” Dedre said, which caused several people to let out a gasp and caused a few of the junior officers to look petrified. The ensign moved over to the secondary science station as Dedre resumed her position.
“Is it coming from a ship?” Aleish asked.
Dedre tapped a few buttons but wasn’t getting a clear enough reading to be certain. She tried to recalibrate their deflector dish to get a clearer reading until she finally got what she wanted. “It doesn’t seem to be from any known Borg vessel,” Dedre finally spoke as she looked at the commander.
“Any idea of what it could be?”
“I can’t get enough data yet to be certain but if I had to take an educated guess I’d say it’s some sort of Borg technology coming from one of the planets in the system,” Dedre stated before working her jaw for a moment. “There is a bit of interference coming through to pinpoint the exact location,” Dedre responded with a bit of frustration in her voice.
“Since it’s in our path of travel we will check it out,” Aleish replied. Dedre nodded as she felt the ship adjust its course to make its way to the system. She began to monitor the signal as they traveled in hopes of picking up more information as they drew closer. Tensions began to rise with the thought of Borg after the events of Frontier Day which was rightfully justified. The thought of the Borg returning would scare anyone, they had gone to yellow alert.
“We have arrived,” Raro spoke as the ship came to a stop.
“Commander Rar, are you able to pinpoint where the signal is originating?”
She looked at her console and was confused as to what she wasn’t getting. “Sir, it seems the signal stopped transmitting.” She said with a confused tone as she tried to triangulate her sensors to see if that would make a difference but it didn’t. “It was there a moment ago now it seems to have stopped.”
“Before it stopped transmitting were you able to pick up where it could have been transmitting from?” Aleish asked.
Looking back at the information that she had been getting she tried to pinpoint an exact location but there was so much interference. However, she realized that the interference was only coming from a moon from the fourth planet in the system. “No,” she began with a pause. “Though I am getting a lot of interference from one of the moons that is orbiting the fourth planet. I think it might be worth checking out, if I had to take an educated guess where it might have originated from that might just be it.”
“Set course,” Aleish ordered.
The ship began to move toward the moon in question after a few moments the ship stopped. Dedre began to run a deep scan of the moon, recalibrating her sensors in hopes of penetrating the interference until she was finally able to break through. “I think I found it,” Dedre finally spoke up. “It seems to have originated from here but now whatever it was is gone. I am not finding anything of Borg origin on the moon at all,” she added.
“Very well, Raro resumed course for our original location.”
“Aye sir,” Raro responded as the ship jumped to warp again.
The ship stood down from yellow alert and began to move to where they would sit and wait for word from the away team. Dedre continued to scour over all the sensor data they picked up while they traveled in hopes of making sense of it all. She wondered how one moment it was there and the next it was gone unless the Borg came and retrieved it or someone else got to it before they did. However, she quickly discredited that idea as there was no indication that any ship came or went from the area other than them.
“You didn’t need to go through all this trouble to do all of this,” Tilana said, motioning at the food that was laid out across the table. There were many different dishes from traditional Romulan dishes to those of Federation and Klingon dishes. Torath decided that they dine well before arriving at Freecloud.
“Oh, it was the least I could do for our guests,” Torath replied with a smile. “Who knows when we will get a chance to have a good meal.”
Tilana smiled as Torath had agreed to accompany her and Ritru down on the planet as part of her entourage. “Either way thank you,” Tilana said as she looked at the others who seemed to be enjoying themselves and the food. A few of them were adventurous and tried different foods that they normally didn’t eat.
Tilana began to eat the food she picked out as she looked at the others. Chon’al seemed to be having a good time stuffing his face while talking amongst the others. While both he and Ritru were assigned to the Saratoga and were only with them for this mission. It seemed as if they had been a part of the crew with how well they seemed to be getting on with the others.
She noticed that Torath and Ritru were talking about how things were going on Rhijun as well as other things. She was the only one who wasn’t talking, she just sat there contemplating things as she ate. Thinking about what was ahead of them and thinking about every possible problem they might face. It had been many years since she had done any sort of undercover work, she was well aware of all that could go wrong if they slipped up in any way.
“You alright Captain?” Llaxia asked.
Snapping out of it she looked at Llaxia and smiled, “I am just thinking is all.”
“About what?” Llaxia pressed.
“The mission and what could go wrong,” Tilana admitted.
“Ah, that is understandable, it is a very delicate operation,” Llaxia replied. “I have every faith that it will go as well as it can be and we will stop them.” Tilana nodded as she knew that Llaxia was trying to be supportive and encouraging which she appreciated.
“Sir we have arrived at Freecloud,” Sorath replied over the comm channel.
“Thank you,” Torath replied before looking over at Tilana as they all felt the ship drop out of warp. “Looks like we should get up to the bridge,” Torath said.
“Indeed,” she responded, both Tilana and Ritru stood up and followed Torath to the bridge while the others remained and finished eating. It would be a while before they were ready to beam down as they had to get past the hoard of advertisements before getting to orbital control.
A short time later the three of them arrived on the bridge Tilana had taken the center seat to begin to play the part. “Well here we go,” Tilana said before things began and her personality shifted to that of who she was now portrayed to be, along with the other two who sat on both sides of her.
