Both Tamaz and Sujian walked into the holodeck with Behrad already there. “Alright, we are here. What do you need from us?” Sujian spoke. They saw the holodeck being formed into a classic observation lab that can be found these days in the Grissom Class or the Pathfinder Class. In the middle, they could see the movement of a Borg cube that was turning slowly around.
“Activate Program Behrad-14,” Behrad spoke as the area changed to a Borg atmosphere of a regeneration area with the same Borg cube in the middle, turning slowly around.
Tamaz gasped at the metallic and cybernetic structure of the regeneration room. His eyes were focused on his surroundings as he could feel the heat plunging on him. It made breathing somewhat difficult for him. He was fascinated by the drones just standing there as batteries charged overnight. Tamaz eventually touched the side of one of the consoles and felt how cold the metal was compared to the heat coming down on him. The creaking sound of metal, the sound that disappeared by machinery doing its duty. This was a fearful location to witness, even if it was just a holodeck. He took a deep breath, tried to process everything he saw, and looked back at his colleagues standing at the floating cube. It was impressive to him that this projected room was but a mere pixel on the scale of that cube.
“Lieutenant,” A voice came from Tamaz's side as his focus broke off, and he looked at Behrad only to quickly join him at the floating cube. “Computer normalizes the temperature." the temperature became normal to their fitting. "The visual information is what we have from the cube before you. But, thank you for your coming, both of you,” Behrad continued. “We are facing the Borg. Starfleet has given us a target to focus on. This cube has been inactive for years, and records on this specific is the most we have.”
“Most?” Sujian looked at him. “So Starfleet chose this specific cube because they don't have any other information?”
He raised his shoulders, not knowing. “The information given is a bit last minute, to be fair. But Starfleet keeps repeating its warnings. Don't stay too long there,” Behrad shrugged. “Which is understandable as we do not want to stay there for too long.”
“How so?” Tamaz felt a bit like the greenhorn in the conversation as he had no real experience with the Borg or it was never a subject of his liking to invest time into.
“Well” Behrad shrugged at the question a bit “The Borg doesn't like to be invaded by an unknown present, let alone a present that wants to stop them. Additionally, they are now more…unpredictable due to the effects of the virus.” Behrad crossed his arms as he looked at the model. “The Captain wants us to go in and out but has not yet announced which members will be making the away team to do it.”
“I am making sure I will be in it” Sujian stated firmly with his fist bold. “They need someone with seasoned experience when dealing with such a dangerous location."
Behrad slightly gave a doubtful nod to that statement. “While I want to agree with that, Commander. The problem is that you have no experience with dealing with the Borg. Especially in this condition. So I presume the Captain will aim for skills and knowledge about the subject.” Behrad shrugged again.
Tamaz stared at the cube until he blinked. “Wait, does that mean I will have to go? Seeing my engineering experience in this can be valued?”
In response, he raised his shoulders again. “I have no idea, Lieutenant, but experience is needed. The thing I require you guys to focus on is understanding this cube. At the same time, I understand the physics of space and its surroundings, plus how to read the given long-range scans. I have no idea what to pay attention to regarding weapons, hostile movements, or anything related to technology mishaps.” Behrad was not a guy who wanted to admit to his weak points, but at this point, there was no other way than to accept it.
It was an apparent request, and it gave the other two a moment to think while looking at the data and the scale based on the latest information. “It shows no hostility to any ships coming close to it. So boarding it would seem to be possible by transport.” Sujian concluded from the latest recon reports, “No activity in weapons, just the unpredictability of the drones is somewhat problematic.”
“You also see some structural damage on the cube, parts that are inactive, and parts that are damaged by either internal damage or a collation with something outside.” Tamaz added, pointing at a few key points that lighted up on the cube. “This cube has been out of it for quite some time. It is a hidden cove of treasures for us.” Tamaz considered all elements in his conclusion. The reports stated that it stayed in the same spot since the first recording, even after receiving unknown damage from unknown space elements.
Nodding to both of them “It will become a late evening until we have figured out this cube.” Behrad was somewhat skeptical about the potential of what this mission would bring to the table. The unknown in this situation was the fear element that was growing among him and the rest of the crew. “Let's get to work on this.” Behrad nodded to both of them. “Get a decent report formulated from this all.”
They both nodded in agreement to the request. “I can provide some hours to this” Tamaz stated, looking at his side to Sujian.
Focused on the latest weaponry reports on the cube and the scavengers operating there. “These reports can help us get a better response time of what we can expect out there. The Borg is not the only problem to worry about. I do my best.” He nodded to both of them as they got to work with the final preparation of their mission.
