((April, Captains quarters))
All of the senior staff aside from Aruin, Mee IH and Lasage were present. The rooms tables were filled with stacks of pads. Wong, Ingram, and Singh sat at the Dining room table, while Tesa, Lady and Jenkins sat on couches in the living room. The reason for the meeting? Getting Captain Tyler acquitted of all charges.
“So with our power failing as fast as it was, Tyler and Mee IH actually saved alot of lives by ordering the evacuation of the ship when they did. By the time the ship hit the upper atmospheric at far more then free fall speed, the ships batteries were done, the ship was powerless, which means no inertial dampeners, which anyone still aboard would have been splattered again a bulkhead.”
“So that’s those 2 charges out of the way. The 16 charges of Direliction of Duty, we already dealt with, our escape pods did exactly what they should have done, our shuttles did what they could to defend them, but the rogue Ferengi landed a few hits with their disruptors on unarmoured and unshielded escape pods. And Tyler was aboard one of the shuttles fighting the Ferengi, so those are bonus.
“Label that all ‘Exculpatory’ in the transmission we’re sending to Fred’s lawyers.” Wong said to Singh.
“Done.”
“How you all coming along with the other charges?” Wong asked the group in the living room.
“Got a bunch of ‘em licked, but Cap my poachers in a few of these.” Lady said in sincerity.
Wong quickly deciphered what the quirky exocomp said despite the odd verbiage.
“Which charges?” The CO asked.
“The single count of making unauthorized statements to the media, his names literally in the title of a memo that originally claimed the Cetacean mutinies of 2363 and 2385 were mere labour dispute, a correction that removed some of the more problematic WAS made within about a week, but either way he wasn’t authorized to comment on that stuff publicly. And then a few of the counts of ‘Failure maintain due discipline while on active operations’, the Prosecutor has some pretty damning evidence.” Tesa chimed in.
“What kind of evidence?”
They looked at each other almost as if they were embarrassed to say.
“Uh, security cam footage of some of the bottom deckers having carnage relations in the corridor berthing, and security security cam footage of the wild party where Bob…rubbed…” Lady said before pausing.
Wong raised his hand, stopping his CMO. The wild party was the wedding reception for Chiefs Morris and T’Sen, and Wong had been there, and sure things had gotten a little out of hand, and a lot sloppy due to the case of Saurian Brandy that the “Bridesmaid” Chief Ford had donated to the festivities. But he had seen worse and never recalled anyone getting charged for it.
“I remember…and if a court martial is going to convict him on that, then they’ll have a bunch more parties and drunken escapades that should be prosecuted too. Why don’t you three start looking up case histories to see how many if any CO’s have been charged for allowing a party like that to occur…jog my memory but did Lt. Dish actually file an official complaint over Bob doing that thing…with his thing?” Wong asked.
“I mean she complained about it in conversation to me in the communal showers the next morning, but no, she didn’t lodge anything officially. She was going for swims with him again within a week though. Bob’s a nice dolphin, high strung maybe, and a bit of a wild drunk, but we all got a bit loopy that night.” Tesa said.
“That might be neither here nor there as a matter of law. It was technically illegal what he did, he could, or even should have been arrested and charged, and he wasn’t, and most of the senior staff was present for it. They could slam dunk on that one if they got a half decent Prosecutor on this.” Lady added.
“Lets still check the case histories on it…everyone good fo keep going for another hour? We’ll be arriving at the rendezvous point tomorrow around 0730h, so I dont want us staying up all night working on this. We still got missions to complete.” Wong nodded as everyone signaled in the affirmative. The rendezvous would be at a nearby nebula that a the Slivin and a few other Starfleet ships had corralled a suspected Rogue Romulan Free State/Tal Shiar warbird in.
