“So Danny. Our new science officer and they’re department has outdone themselves with this one. Now that we’re only 4.5 light years away, they’ve run all the info we hace from all the broadcasts that we have recieved. They used a filtered adaptive AI to run through and parse all the info down.” Tyler slid a padd across the table to Danny.

“So far from that system as well as all the modern subspace system we suspect that have emanated from there. Its an absolutely wild 4 page read. Pay attention to the last few paragraph of the Basic Facts section.”

“I’m guessing we’re out of the Tholian frying pan, and right into the Duwallan fire?” Danny replied as he quickly read the Basic Facts summary.

Basic facts-

A large planetary system centred on a G type start roughly 1.8 Solar masses. There is 2 terrestrial planets, one is in the habitable zone, home to the Dergans, a species of short bipedal sentients that vaguely resemble humanoid pigs. The Formicans are a highly organized, 4 legged, 2 armed insectoid species that vaguely resemble ants, they are roughly 6 feet tall and 5 feet long and reside on the moon Formica around the Duwalla 4. The Formicans and Dergan worlds both show signs of at some point in the distant past. Both seem to have been subjugated by the Vezda, both still have ruins and scriptures that speak of the terrifying evil the Vezda represent. 

The Formicans were from a large moon that orbited a large moon of the 4th planet from the Duwallan sun. A ‘big saturn’. The Formican moon was able to sustain life due to its molten outer core, tidal warming from the planet it orbits and a steady stream of icy bodies that almost continually bombard the planet. The icy bodies are ejected matter from another moon made almost entirely of frozen water and liquid nitrogen. Formica intersects the orbital path of the other ice moon twice during each 57 day orbit around its parent planet. The Formicans live and work in a vast mantle that is honeycombed with endless caverns and tunnels and seams in the rock. The only flora that grows is several varieties of moss and mushrooms. There is several species of eels, shrimp, mollusks and sea cucumbers that thrive in subterranean basins that collect the water that Hummels the planet’s surface in the form of ice balls. A M class atmosphere only hugs the moon up to a height of around 200 metres. It’s thin but breathable on the surface, and is most comfortable for humanoid species only in the tunnels.

The Dergans live on the 2nd planet from the sun. An  M class world with an average daytime temperature of about 24 degrees and a nighttime temperature of 10 degrees. The planet has 0.9G of Earth, though it is slightly larger. The planet is 12% less dense by volume. 55% of the world is a lightly salinated ocean or large fresh water lakes. The Dergan appear to be a form of highly intelligent, bipedal, 4-5 foot tall hogs or swine. They achieved orbital flights with the use of high powered cyclotronic slingshot that would send vessels and probes into space and then those vessels and probes sustain themselves through low powered impulse drives that were inspired by the inventors own flatulence.

About 100 years ago. A few years after encountering eachother the 2 sentient species fought a bitter 50 year war. The Formicans gained the upper hand through better coordination and superior numbers, but the Dergans would eventually earn a stalemate when the Formicans moved in to orbit, and were intent on bombarding the planet. The Dergans deployed dozens of their space catapults as massive drivers that fired projectiles that were capable of easily knocking out any Formican ship. Nearly half of the Formican fleet was destroyed before they were able to withdraw.

A tense ceasefire was negotiated and held for about 35 years. And then a group of Ferengi fundamentalists who had left Ferenginar around 2386 showed up. A colony ship of refugees/outcasts who struck out on their own after Rom’s reforms proved to be too much for them to handle. 

After a nearly 10 year long journey around Romulan space they stumbled upon a warp dampening field that barred their way. They saw star system on sensors that looked promising, with signs of 2 technologically advanced species. They limped along at warp 2 for about 3 weeks before reaching Duwalla. They quickly wowed both species in the system and secured the rights to build trading stations in orbit above both planets. While also claiming vast mining concessions on a dilithium rich moon, and in the outer solar system. They quickly began ingratiating themselves into both societies. And while the Formicans have built architectural wonders with the replicator technology and have advanced into a warp capable species of highly motivated, telepathic, dutiful and patriotic capitalists, the Dergans devolved into a gluttonous mob of pleasure seeking drug addicts. In the 5.5 years since the Ferengi arrived, the Dergan economy had contracted by nearly 20%, and now resembles a near-failed welfare state, where entrepreneurship is only pursued in the sales and service industries and innovation is nearly stagnant.

The Consortium of Ferengi Traditionalists had introduced both species to the wonders of personal replicators as they had brought 3 industrial ones with them on the long trip. The Ferengi monopolize most of the interstellar trade in thensystem now to tune of 99% as they have made agreement to assist the Formicans in shipbuilding for a ownership stake in each vessel.

“Are you fucking kidding me sir? The Ferengi, have been there for 5 plus years already?” Danny exclaimed.

“Its appears so number one. Keep reading. We need to get a start on this right away. I’ve forwarded this to command already. They’ve already promised some follow on assets as needed. Since this is a second contact and there is a clear sign of cultural contaminatoon of a pre-warp species, we’ll be a walking a fine line with the Dergans, but the Formicans are an advanced warp capable species now, but again, due to that cultural interference.” Tyler said.

“I’ll get hunting down info on the Ferengi group mentioned here when I finish reading.”

The two sat while Danny read the AI generated report and the Captain worked a way on his padd coming up with contingency plans and figuring how many dozens of different Federation and Starfleet laws and regs this mission would have them dealing with on an ‘on the ground fashion’.

Holosuite 4

Tyler had authorized T’sen and Morris to be able to use the suite for 16 hours each day for theb2 days following the ceremony.

The erstwhile couple had used the time to invite their friends to hang with them at holo beach party and massive bonfire on the evening of the second day. Even the douchebag Ford had thrown on a pair of shorts and had visited for a few hours.
