“Captain’s log supplemental. After a long term warp travel, the crew are a bit antsy to say the best, they are growing more and more agitated and the counselor is concerned. We must find a planet to take our minds off of being ship bound for six months. The current first officer is in Astrometrics with the science team exploring this void to see if there is any alternatives than holodecks to use. It is hard to say with modern sensors, as this void there is matter here, but none can be directly detected unless if we are sub light speeds.”

“We are currently working on a way to increase our reactions times with the Helm and Engineering to assure that should an emergency stop be needed, the timing will not be an issue.”

“What are you talking about Sylvain? The systems are fine… It is the reaction time from you announcing it to inputing is the problem. If we just make it that you had control of emergency stop this would not be the problem.” Imal Dia, the chief engineer said.

“Dia with all due respect, I don’t need another sensor input, or better yet another command output to play with on the Security Tactical systems. It’s bad enough that I have 30 displays to content with, but dealing with the helm’s ontop of that! Are you insane?” Sylvain Lacroix the silver haired CSTO complained.

The captain stood up and pointed to the ready room, “Now you two!” The captain, Nomi, a seasoned veteran of Long hauls followed the two into her ready room.

“Continue standing…” she ordered as she sat down and moved the gong that adorned her desk closer to her. “Do we need gloves or we going bare handed? Truth be told I like bare handed, does much more damage and I need the entertainment.” She sat back and crossed her arms. “We are currently under a lot of stress, I cannot have my senior staff acting like this. Now resolve your differences in private, but not in public. If the junior officers see you two acting that way, it is their green light to act that way understand?”

They both nodded. Sylvain was going to interject something but didn’t.

“Find a solution. I understand the frustration, give the extra sensor read out to Helm? I am sure that he wouldn’t mind.” Nomi suggested.

“Won’t work.” Sylvain said, “It is like these are hidden, and require a direct set of eyes.”

The Captain had a solution, but she wanted to see if these two could come up with the same one, with some hints, if needed.

“Don’t forget the Auxiliary Stations located on the Aft, and also the seat beside me.” Nomi mentioned in passing.

“We can re-route Astrometrics there, with an Emergency stop. Have it stationed by Astrometrics and or off duty helm?” Dia questioned.

“Was that a question or a request Commander?” Nomi asked.

“Both?” Dia Smiled with her nose ridges blushing.

“It is a better solution than you two knocking each other’s teeth out. Go run it by Commander Donovan. The XO has control over the schedule.” the Captain said, “Remember, you are to work with people, not fight.”

The two nodded and left the room. Nomi Claire picked up the picture on her shelves behind her. Andrew Claire, her husband, Captain of the USS Chesapeake lost in this sector. The true reason why they were here. Not a message, or a beacon, nothing, that is part of the investigation, but they were not expecting this. A nebula of Dark Matter, that they had to traverse, rendering all their equipment virtually useless.

Her door beeped for attention. She placed the photo back and opened it. “Ah Idris, come in please.” she offered a seat.

The Arabian man stood at attention, his silky hair flowed quite nicely, his green eyes pierced your soul. “Long range sensors are dead in the water. We just have short range. So far nothing.” he said sitting down and looking at the captain. “Nomi, I am worried, if we do not find the Chesapeake soon the crew is going to get Cabin Fever or worse.”

“Me too, is there another ship that experienced this or something similar?” Nomi asked.

“Not off the top of my head. I can research it and get back to you.” he said.

“Sounds good friend.” she smiled.

She sat back and pondered, how would the ship be more useful… moments later it hit her… “Sound and concussive force… Echo location!”

She ran to the bridge where she saw her senior officers in a sort of meeting. “Echo Location!” Nomi Screamed at the top of her lungs.

“The sound would reverberate off of anything.” Idris piped up.

“The ships sensors would be able to handle the downgrade, I am not sure how far it would go.” Dia said.

“I am sure with all the power subroutines blah blah, you got it set Dia.” Sylvain patted her on the shoulder.

The captain looked around the bridge. “Right we may need the secondary station for Emergency stop as a back up, but other than that, we should be good. Work on the Echo location solution too. Make sure the Holodecks remained powered and that your crews are taking time as needed.” the Captain straightened her shirt. She had yet to tell the crew the real reasons why they were in deep unexplored space.
