Story #12: Can you do it?
JP: Renato Gutierrez, Mira Solwick, Reeve O’Connell, Jaxon Thorne and Aria Chen.

Location: SS Wolverine, Transporter Room

The lights started to flicker as soon as the materialized in the transporter room. It was clear that the ship was losing power quickly. Mira walked off the pad and walked over to the transporter console. “I’m going to check the transporter logs we should make our way to Engineering. Keeping the power going will get us more answers. And I’d hate to beam back before we get all the answers.”’Mira said, has she pulled out her tread quarter and started downloading all the data from the transporter console.

“I am headed to engineering.” Reeve said quickly. “I will get the power back online.”

“I am not detecting any life signs.” Aria said. “I would like to do some looking around they could be hiding behind a field.”

“We should stick together.” Jaxon spoke up. “Until we’re certain there is no sign of Trouble.”

“ that’s a good idea, let’s stay alert. Whoever did this, could have left traps.” Mira suggested to her away team.

As they headed to engineering, the lights flickered on and off. “Once we get there I will get to work on the power.” Reeve spoke up.

“Let’s head down to engineering.” Mira suggested as the group started leading the way away from the transporter room. Jaxon was leading the group, he had his tricorder in hand.

“I am detecting no signs of life.” Jaxon said as they moved along. This really bothered him. He had a bad feeling.

“It feels like we’re on a ghost ship.” Mira suggested, as she shared her chief of securities concerns about not liking this feeling. Felt like they were walking in in a grave a tombstone. It was a very surreal moment.

“Here we are.” Reeve said as they reached engineering. He paused and then headed in, heading over to assess the diagnostics for the power issue when he saw a crew member, laying lifeless on the floor. The look of horror on his face said it all. “Commander.” Was all he could say.

Aria rushed over, even though she was certain there was nothing she could do to help. Her scan confirmed the crew member was gone.

“We’ll have to mourn over him later, for the time being we need to find out what exactly happened here we need to restore power. Mr O’Connell please restore the power levels. Miss Chen please confirmed this crew member passed away. Mister Thorne try to get on the sensors and verify that there is no life forms around here or any unusual power signatures that might be masking life signs. I’ll start downloading the computer logs, to try to figure out what happened here.” Mira called out that she started putting her away team to work.

Reeve quickly went to work. “I will have power restored quickly.” He said as he worked. “I can’t guarantee that it will stay on but it will be good for what we need to accomplish here.”

“The crew member is deceased.” Aria confirmed kneeling next to the body. “Preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma.” These were the times where as a doctor she had to use all of her strength to hold it together.

“I have sensors up.” Jaxon said after several minutes. “I can confirm there is no sign of life on this ship, other than the four of us.”

“Well let’s not let her go down regardless. I want you to do continuous sweeps Mister Thorne.” Mira said if she looked over to Jaxon.

“Yes ma’am.” Jaxon replied. He knew the importance of keeping an eye out for any sign of trouble. “I will contact you immediately if anything comes up.”

“Well doctor I don’t think there’s anything we can do for him then, maybe you can help me download the logs.” Mira has she looked over to Aria, she could tell that she was sad by this news. Mira was also sad, by the news as well.

“Of course,” Aria replied quietly. She was grateful for something to keep her busy.

“Do the best you can, I need power long enough to download the logs.” Mira said that she looked over to Reeve.

“You will have that.” Reeve said as the ships power was restored. “It will last for a good amount of time.”

“All right doctor, let’s see what we can find out.” Mira that is both ladies continue to downloading the files, Mira was shocked from some of the footage that she was seeing about how the blood work came on and just wipe them out. How could they be so vicious she wondered?

As the logs continue she opened up an inquiry to find out what was in the cargo containers, did they have a chance to carry out their mission? And as soon as she looks she can see that they had it they were attacked before they could even deliver their cargo. It looks like they went to rescue survivors first. But that was in vain because the Vaadwaur wiped out all the survivors and the crew.

“It appears that in cargo bay 1, cargo bay 2 and cargo bay 3 they have medical supplies. I think we should talk to the captain and deliver the supplies ourselves. I’m also pretty certain that the captain’s going to want us to try to get the shipping ready for transport. Let’s start with the first issue do we have enough power for the cargo bay systems?” Mira new that the captain would want to tow the ship back to the near Starbase which in this case to be Starbase Bravo.

“Yes.” Reeve replied. “In fact, I can grab some parts from our engineer and stabilize things a little more to make certain the power holds, with your permission, Commander.”

“Granted, I have a feeling will be here for a while.” Mira said as she went on. “Let me know when you are ready, so I can notify the Captain.”

Once Reeve got the parts beamed over from engineering he went to work. It took a little while but soon he sat back and smiled at Mira. “We are good to go!” He declared. “We have enough power for what you want to do.”

“Well that didn’t take very long, started to think you missed your calling Mr O’Connell maybe you should have been an engineer.” Mira said with a big approving smile on her face.

“It was one of my choices but Operations is my calling.” He smiled then. “We’re all a team I am happy to help.”

“Well in any case, I’m grateful that you’re part of our crew.” Mira said with a warm smile.

Then she tapped on her communicator. =A=”away team to the Paso Robles!?=A= mirror called out as she waited for the captain to respond.

=A=”What do you have to report number one?”=A= Renato ask, curious to know what she has discovered so far on the Wolverine.

=A=” The Wolverine was unable to carry out her primary mission, it looked like they were rescuing survivors first and then they were going to deliver the supplies after they deliver them to star-based Bravo. I recommend we beam the supplies aboard captain, after my team verifies that they haven’t been rigged or booby trapped.”=A=

=A=”it’s a good plan number one, keep me updated. Paso Robles out.”=A= Renato said as the channel ended.

Mira then looked over to Reeve, Aria and Jaxon. Well we have our orders. O’Connell see what you can do about those cargo bay systems now. While you’re doing that I’ll have the doctor come with us with me and Mr Thorne then we’ll head over to the cargo van verify that the cargo isn’t booby trapped. Does anyone have any questions?” Mira asked if she waited for everyone to respond.

“I’m good.” Reeve replied. “I’ll get to work.” He turned and headed to work on the cargo bay systems.

“I’m ready.” Aria said as she walked over to where Mira stood.

“As am I.” Jaxon murmurs and they headed in their way to check out the cargo.

Location: SS Wolverine, Corridors to Cargo Bay 1

Mira, Aria and Jaxon started to leave main engineering. They were now heading into the corridors, they can see a lot of weapons fire along the corridor itself, as soon as they drew closer and closer to the cargo bay they could tell more weapons fire along the hull.

“It looks like they put up a fight.” Mira suggested if she looked over to her team and they continued on towards the cargo bay.

“They gave it all they had.” Jaxon said quietly. He wished they could have gotten there sooner they might have made a difference.

They made it into the cargo bay area, and Mira was very hesitant to want to go in at first. “Let’s start a passive scan and see what’s out there just be on these bulkheads.” Mira orders Jaxon.

“Yes ma’am.” Jaxon replied and started a scan. After a few moments he spoke. “There are explosives attached to the medical supplies.” He informed the commander.

“I was afraid of this, can we diffuse them?” Mira asked, she wasn’t sure how good the Vaadwaur was at creating booby traps.

“I need to take a closer look at them.” Jaxon replied. “I recommend sending a drone to give me some up close footage of them.”

“How much time do you think you’ll need roughly, I’ll need to inform the captain?” Mira asked as she waited for Jaxon to give her a rough estimate.

“Fifteen minutes to send the drone in, take some pictures and return.” Jaxon replied. “I’ve done this before shouldn’t have any issues.”

“Okay I’ll make the recommendation to the captain, in the meantime I want you and Dr Chen to verify this area is secured. If they really trapped this area who knows what else they booby trapped! Please be careful.” Mira ordered.

“Understood.” Jaxon replied. He looked to Aria. “We’re going to stick together and continue to scan for any sign of other surprises they left in store for us.”

“Something tells me.” Aria said. “They don’t want this ship going home or those supplies delivered.”

“That looks to be the case, good luck with your mission. I’m going to notify the captain.” Mira said, as she watched Jaxon and Aria leave .

“Let’s start sweeping section by section.” Jaxon said to Aria. “We need to clear departments before we can move further.”

“It might be best to sweep the areas nearest the cargo bay first.” Aria replied and the two of them went to work. A few minutes later, Aria spoke. “I found something but I’m not certain what it is.”

Jaxon did a second sweep and looked over to Aria. “I am not certain what it is but it doesn’t come back as explosives. I will notify the commander we may want to send the probe there as well.” He sent a message to Mira and they continued on.

=A=”Away team to Paso Robles!”=A= Mira called as she waited for the captain to respond.

=A=”Please tell me you don’t have more bad news, number one.=A= Renato asked, having a bad feeling of what she was going to say.

=A=”sadly I do, the crates are booby trapped. Mr Thorn is asking for a drone to beam over so he can get a better scan to see if we can disarm them. I would recommend keeping a transporter lock on us just in case it’s mission go sideways.” =A= Mira suggested as a course of action.

=A=”Roger that, good luck to you guys.”=A= Renato call Dad as he ended the channel and Mira waited for everybody to return.

Reeve walked over to Mira and smiled. “Everything is set with the cargo systems. We are good to go.”

Aria and Jaxon came walking up to them. “We didn’t find any other explosives but one section we need to check out.” Jaxon said quietly.“It doesn’t appear to be a booby trap but I’m uncertain what it is.”

“Something tells me nothing good can come of that search. The captain beamed over this drone for you.” Mira said is she handed Jaxon the drone.

“Let’s see what we are dealing with.” Jaxon said as he set up the drone and sent it on its way. Jaxon watched as it approached the booby trapped area. “They really don’t want us to deliver these supplies. It is a highly sophisticated weapon.”

“Can you disarm it?” Mira point blankly asked him, waiting for his response. She wants to know if they need to get the heck out of there or if he could disarm it and they could get the supplies.

“Sorry.” Jaxon sighed with an apologetic shrug. “Yes I can.” He paused for a moment. “I’ll head there and he back shortly.”

“I need you to be certain on this, Mister Thorne. First you said sorry, and then he said you can. I don’t need you falling on your sword, I just need to know if you can do it cuz if you can’t we’ll abandon the ship and we’ll safely scuttle it.” Mira said As she went on to say. “We could always replace the supplies we can’t replace you.”

“My apologies Commander, I can do this. “ Jaxon said to Mira. “I know I could do this, they expected us just to be in the supply since they left in there they probably expected us to scan with our sensors to set off the proximity detection system but are low grades tricorder scans don’t have enough power to generate a field big enough to set off the motion sensitivity of their crude devices. I know I could disarm this.”

“Then proceed Mister Thorne.” Mira said, as she watched Jaxon slowly go into the room. “Commander prepare to secure the bulkhead hatch, just as a precautionary step.”

“Understood, good luck.” Mira said, as she secured the door behind him.

Aria looked over to Mira. “I hope he can do it.” She said with the concern look on her face.

“Me too, I would hate to lose a medical supplies but I would hate to lose him more so that’s the first time to trouble we’re pulling him out of there.” Mira pointed out to the doctor.

“I think that’s the wise of course of action.” Aria said, as she looked at her door. Only seconds had gone by but it felt like an eternity.

But felt like a short eternity which is probably more like 10 minutes, Mr Thorne gently tapped on the bulkhead because it was sealed on the other side. Mira was excited to open it up. “You did it Mister Thorne.

“I did, and I’m glad I did because of those would have gone off it would have seriously damaged the Paso Robles.” Jaxon suggested to Mira.

Mira had a concern look on her face, and then she took a deep side as the scene starts to fade away. She was grateful that he was able to disarm the bombs.
