Ryder entered the briefing room to see his senior staff present. If there was one thing he could count on it was the staff on his ship to make sure things were discovered. While the ship had some drama mainly because of him it couldn’t be said the Neptune was not efficient or effective in the missions she was assigned.

Ryder smiled at the group of people trying to keep the appearances up even when the unknown weighed so heavily upon all of them. “Thanks for the prompt response, while I know we are all unaware of what is going on if there’s any crew that can figure it out I believe it’s all of you. So let’s start with what we know. We have no warp, and it looks like no communication. Is there anything else that we have discovered?”

Ruvok spoke up “Captain, it looks like sensors are also inoperable as well. I am unable to see anything on long range or short range sensors. Our last scan seemed to show our scanning range began to have erratic patches of unscannable areas that we just dropped from being able to scan in general,” Ryder nodded as he listened carefully to his operations officer. This situation wasn’t right and something was causing these issues. He had to make an executive decision given the information he had.

“Alright, well we need to find a way to contact Captain Weston so that we can turn around and head back towards Mirage Station with all haste. I feel like something bad is coming and the station could be in trouble. As soon as we are abe….” Ryder was not able to finish the last part before he heard panic from his comms. “Captain to the bridge! Captain to the bridge!”

Ryder looked at his staff and turned from the stress in the bridge officer’s voice to something was happening. Ryder began to run with his staff close behind. In only a minute the staff was on the bridge. What was in front of them was beyond words. An entire fleet of ships had appeared out of nowhere, but Ryder was not sure of the ships. They looked familiar, but he couldn’t place them.

His thoughts were answered by his Klingon tactical officers “It’s the Vaadwaur” he said quietly. Ryder saw the eyes of his officers grow wide. It was the first time he had ever encountered them and from stories he never thought it would be something he would witness.

Amanda felt her stomach flop as she looked at the ships in front of her. If she would have to repel Vaadwaur invaders she was sure that the ship would be taken. Even with the most strict protocols she didn’t have anything in place to fight them.

Ryder looked at Kra’vaak “Do you have any thoughts of what we can do here?” Kra’vaak thought for a moment “Well if you look it seems like they are passing by us. Why I cannot tell, but if they are having issues with sensors I think we could power down and sit here until they have passed. The issue is we cannot tell the Hydra the same thing.”

Ryder wasn’t sure on what to do here because this was a cluster and something that was a situation of dire consequence if something would go wrong. “Shut down the ship’s systems minus life support make us look abandoned. And prepare for the possibility of attack at a moment’s notice.”

Adams nodded at the Captain’s orders and relayed the message to the crew making sure to not make tons of noise to allow for silence when possible.

Now Ryder gets a taste of what vaadwaur power looks like, the panic is there amd I bet it is in the klingon as well. Great post, enjoyed the tense vibe

The story does a good job of building tension. I love the interaction between the crew; it feels authentic and the sudden appearance of the Vaadwaur adds a nice touch. I am very interested to see where this is heading. It's a great setup for what feels like a high-stakes meeting.

'Rig for silent running' as they'd say on a submarine. This is along the same lines, observe the enemy fleet and hope your not spotted. Full of tension and very well written.
