Vague rumors, fuzzy reports and strange rumblings, from the furthest reaches of the Delta Quadrant to the core of the Federation, all suggest something is happening. Something Borg. After being caught flatfooted on Frontier Day, is the Fourth Fleet being paranoid or is something really amok?

While hunting for a Borg homing signal that went active and then disappeared somewhere near Wolf 359, the USS Polaris picks up a distress call from Beta Serpentis III, an icy world not far from the graveyard of Starfleet’s first fatal encounter with the Borg. The message warns of Borg activity in the area, but as quickly as it started, it stops. When the squadron contacts the colony for clarification, they deny sending the transmission, and sensor scans show nothing of concern whatsoever. It’s probably just another dead end, like all the others they’ve been chasing, but Admiral Reyes sends the USS Ingenuity to check it out just in case.
