Amidst the smouldering remains of the Dominion – Cardassia alliance, the new, much more democratic and free, Cardassian Union has emerged.

However, all is not as peaceful as it would seem to the outside observer. The True Way has returned, and both the Detapa Council and the Central Command have lost control of vast swathes of border territory with the Federation to it. Considering this, Starfleet Command has ordered the Liris to report to the region, for a special mission to restore peace in the region.
