Part of Bravo Fleet: Crossroads

USS Shadow

Legibility

The USS Shadow receives orders to locate the USS Cobb, which vanished while docking at Starbase 21. When the ship is eventually located in an alternate reality, the Shadow is tasked to retrieve them.

Mission Description

The USS Shadow’s arrival in an ‘optimized’ version of Federation space is welcomed by the USS Y-19-52.2 and not met with hostility, but curiosity and the offer to ‘find an optimized solution’ to bring the Cobb back home.

The problem: The Cobb was damaged during transit. Consent assumed, two officers with neural tissue damage received cognitive-assistive implants – technology that in this reality is considered standard care, but don’t exist in the Prime timeline and would cause contamination.

USS Shadow: Legibility

Valdes didn’t turn on the lights. She didn’t need another confirmation of absence, and she knew her place without guidance. And once she sat, she gave her report. “Negotiations went well. Burkhard remains polite, as people can only be polite when they think the facts are on their side. [...]

USS Shadow: Legibility

A limited trial, they had called it, as if that eased anyone’s uncertainty. Valdes resented the necessity, the uncertainty, and most of all the attention. She glanced at Quence, whose presence had been her decision. And at Trovek, who had ignored her decision and came anyway. “Do you notice [...]
