[SBB] The Future of Starfleet
Description
The theme underlying the Starbase Bravo mission “Colloquium” is: the future of Starfleet exploration. At the dawn of the 25th century, the brightest minds across the Federation are tasked with imagining what exploration will look like for the next hundred years. In what ways will it remain the same and in what ways will it become different?
Therefore, the theme of this writing competition is: the future of your Starbase Bravo character.
The story you submit should pose questions, or reveal answers, about how concepts of the future impacts your character today. The story could be about the future your character hopes for, or about avoiding the future your character fears. Maybe it’s an opportunity to foreshadow a plot arc you’re going to write six months from now. It could be as extravagant as an existential crisis or it could be as practical as the training your character is undergoing today to prepare for a better tomorrow.
You may go so far as to write a dream sequence or a holodeck adventure, but there’s no need to literally depict the future. These same themes can be explored with your character in the present day by exploring the ways their experiences and choices are impacted by the weight of what’s to come.
