Twas the night before Christmas…

When all through the ship (or base), not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse (apart from the crew on duty, but go with it, it’s Christmas ;))

You’ve just come off your duty shift on Christmas Eve, and settled down for ‘just five minutes’ to relax before heading off to bed. Falling asleep, you are woken by odd noises. Upon opening your eyes you find something quite peculiar…

Either:

• A chimney has randomly appeared in your quarters, complete with a shiny pair of black boots dangling in view
• A large figure in a red suit is putting something under your Christmas tree (or other seasonal decoration)
• You just came face to face with what looks like a reindeer
• Any other Santa Claus-based image you can think of…

For this writing challenge you’re tasked with writing a story from the above prompts. Has your character just met with St. Nick himself (or his reindeer), is this a dream, or has something… else picked up on the Christmas imagery to get itself onto the ship?

 

Criteria

• All submissions should be sent through BFMS, and a link to the story should be included as the entry.
• Submissions should be between 500 and 2000 words.
• Submissions will be graded based on grammar, story, and how well the requirements have been met in the story.
