Description

Draw or paint a new design concept for a Starfleet Runabout. Include a design complete with labels for key systems on your submission.

Will you design a new and unique idea like the Delta Flyer, will you make a monster version of a Danube, or oversize a yacht and give it some guns?

Optional – Submissions can be accompanied by a brief explanation and specification sheet. This should be no longer than 300 words and should be placed in the text field.

  • Solo entries only
  • Must be hand drawn or painted original works.
  • Submissions should the form of an image (jpg, gif, png) in a vertical poster format with a maximum file size of 1MB and be uploaded in the submission window on BFMS.
  • The winning design will be judged on: presentation and clear design features; originality; and adherence to the theme.

The Hudson-class runabout represents Starfleet's next step in multi-role small craft development, designed to meet the challenges of the 25th century. Building on the classic Danube-class frame, the Hudson incorporates advanced systems and increased flexibility while maintaining the adaptability runabouts are known for.

Key improvements include a dual deflector array for redundancy and versatility in navigation, scanning, and defensive operations. A dorsal rollbar houses a micro-torpedo launcher capable of deploying probes and quantum torpedoes in a 360-degree arc, giving the Hudson unprecedented punch for a vessel of its size. Integrated type-X ventral phaser strips and dual-phase cannons dorsal provide layered energy weapon coverage, allowing the craft to engage threats far beyond the capacity of its predecessor.

Despite the tactical upgrades, the Hudson remains true to Starfleet's ideals of exploration and support. Enhanced sensor packages and modular interiors make it equally suited for science, reconnaissance, or diplomatic missions. A streamlined hull profile improves atmospheric handling, while RCS thrusters give it precision maneuverability in both planetary and deep-space operations.

In short, the Hudson-class is a runabout designed for 2402. Small enough to berth in shuttlebays or dock with starbases, but strong enough to operate independently in volatile regions.
