Science Office – Mission Update

Description

When a mission is completed is an ideal time for updating the relevant command, or commands, wiki pages. It’s a good time to write a mission summary to provide a concise summary events. Summaries should be reflective of historical events, not story teasers. A quick summation of what happened so others can quickly read over it and have a fair idea of what happened.

It’s especially useful when commands move along so that new writers might know the legacy and events their commands have been involved in.

With that said, the Science Office would like to encourage such activity with a mission summary competition. Pick a mission you have written, any mission, be it very early in your time with Bravo Fleet to one you finished writing yesterday and write us a summary to go up on the wiki.

Submissions for Mission Update are to be newly written summaries. The history for the wiki page will be consulted.

Criteria

 • If you do not have a BF Wiki account, you will need to have one created. Please contact the Science Office and provide required details - User ID, Email Address and desired wiki username.
 • Entries are to be for commands and missions you were writing for at the time.
 • Submissions will include a link to the relevant wiki article as well as the content of the update itself.
 • Entries are to be between 100 and 500 words.
 • Entries will be evaluated on clarity, writing quality and adherence to the Style Guide of the Submission Guide.

https://wiki.bravofleet.com/index.php?title=USS_Sirona

En route to DS17 after a two-year mission, the Sirona picks up a distress signal from the USS Callisto. More than half of the Callisto’s crew - including their Captain and First Officer - have fallen under the influence of an unknown telepathic life form referring to itself as “Naeric” and abandoned their ship, choosing a life of worship and devotion on the planet Asada. Despite developing a shield configuration that negates the psionic energy linked to the entity, those who remain onboard still feel its pull and are unable to leave orbit. The Sirona sets course for Asada.
Upon arrival, they find the remaining crew teetering the edge of sanity. Fearing not only for the lives of those on the surface, the Sirona’s senior officers agree on a risky plan: attempt to communicate with the entity, and try to persuade it to release its hold.
Chief Diplomatic Officer Quirell assembles a team and takes a runabout into Asada’s orbit. Unprotected by the Sirona’s adjusted shields, first team soon begin exhibiting signs of telepathic intrusion. Realising they’re running out of time, Quirell forces a confrontation.
Naeric manifests in an incomprehensible form of ever-shifting wheels within wheels. After initial reluctance, he engages in a purely telepathic conversation with Quirell. Through their exchange, it is revealed that Naeric is not native to Asada, but trapped there. He once nurtured the local species, guiding them from infancy to civilisation as their divine protector,  but as science and technology replaced faith, his ability to connect with them faded. Touching the minds of the Callisto’s crew was a desperate attempt to remain in this plane of existence.
Quirell convinces Naeric that forced devotion is hollow and true connection must be a choice. She urges him to reveal his true nature and grant his followers the freedom to leave or stay. Naeric relents, and in return, Quirell promises that Starfleet - that she - will not let him fade into oblivion.
As the veil is lifted from the minds of those on Asada, many quickly return to the Callisto, though few decide to stay. Others leave but carry their newfound faith with them.
As the two ships part ways, the Sirona’s crew debates the implications of what they have witnessed. What happens if those who stayed eventually outgrow Naeric? What if faith in him spreads his influence throughout the galaxy? And did he truly relinquish his hold?
Emphasising that they have no right to judge the choice of others as long as it’s made freely, and that can do nothing more than place Asada under quarantine protocols, Quirell leaves the gathering.

As she returns to her quarters, she recalls the interaction with Naeric fondly. A warmth envelops her, and a quiet voice thanks her for keeping her promise - implying that Quirell herself has become a devotee.

Link to the Fresno's wiki: https://wiki.bravofleet.com/index.php?title=USS_Fresno

I added in every one of the missions the Fresno participated in, but if we're just submitting one then let it be my first, The Shakedown of USS Fresno and Her Crew;

A new Captain and Executive Officer shuttle in to take command. New crew rotate in while some Fresno veterans remain. The Fresno, having just completed the refit that repurposed it from an Agricultural support ship to a more generalized and versatile Engineering variant, prepares to undergo a shakedown cruise of sorts.

But the true shakedown of the Fresno comes with sudden orders to assist the colony world of Pieris IV, a research colony that is studying a native worm to understand the enzymes they secrete and how it makes soil immensely fertile. When the ground sensors they rely on to track the worms begin to inexplicably fail, the Fresno is sent in to help.

They end up flushing out a smuggling operation whose computer virus had meant to burn out orbital sensor arrays to mask their movement. Their virus had the unintended side effect of taking down the research colony's ground sensors as well, derailing the colony's work and exposing the very operations that this smuggling ring had hoped to hide. A Rigelian freighter blasts off from a nearby base on the world, ultimately eluding the Fresno.

Mission Update: Sanctus in Machina.

In the aftermath of the extra-legal events of The Devil to Pay, Samantha Hyland is promoted to Captain and assigned command of the Excelsior II – class USS Valley Forge, in an effort by Starfleet Command to sideline her and place her where she can do less harm, patrolling the former DMZ.

However, in Sanctus in Machina, Sam’s uncanny knack for being in the right place at the wrong time, sees the crew of the ‘VF’ encounter a mysterious ‘ghost-ship’, Hull-3185, lost some 25 years ago during a test – flight for the revolutionary “Stutter Warp “drive technology. What they discover aboard sends a chill up the spine and leaves more questions unanswered than mysteries solved – as the lost vessel truly seems to be inhabited by the specters of it’s former crew.

A hitherto unexpected malfunction in the Stutterwarp drive not only killed the test – crew but tore a hole in the fabric of space/time and opened a rift to a Mirror Universe, where the “USS Artemis” (as her former crew had affectionately dubbed their test – ship) has been wandering all of these longs years, before it’s unexpected return to the Prime Universe.

In a frantic final pursuit, the mysterious Dr Gallian Makon tears open a subspace rift with the Lt Cdr Dai & Lt Isono aboard and Sam Hyland is forced to plunge the USS Valley Forge into the unknown, in a desperate attempt to save her people. What she finds beyond the anomaly will be discovered as they venture Through a Mirror, Crack’d Darkly…

From the USS Andromeda: https://wiki.bravofleet.com/index.php?title=USS_Andromeda

Cease First :: 2402

Shortly after taking command of the USS Andromeda Captain Carrillo is assigned a diplomatic assignment in The Triangle mediating between two warring worlds whose conflict has extended to attacks on any ship that enters their solar system. Federation Ambassador T'Venik is assigned to the ship as a permanent addition to the diplomatic capabilities of the ship as well as the mission specialist for this particular mission. A familiar face also joins the crew as the new First Officer in Andorian Kan Th'kaotross who had previously served with many of the officers aboard the USS Seattle and USS Anaheim.

After rather easily surviving an initial attack but the inferior forces of the Whemwhoan the crew of the Andromeda must mediate a generations-long disagreement between the lazy and self-centred Whemwhoan and the AI-controlled android race called only the Serfs. The Serfs had originally been AI drones created by the Whemwhoan to do their grunt work, but after centuries of service, the robotic race pushed for citizenship only to be attacked. Eventually, they were driven off the world to a previously thought inhospitable world in which they settled. The Whemwhoan then took the war to the Serfs, engaging in endless attempts at genocide until both sides believed the only path to peace was the destruction of the other side.

Unable to come to a negotiated settlement the Federation makes ready to withdraw when the arrival of a Klingon warbird, drawn by the sight of the Federation ship, changes things. An ill-conceived attack on the Klingons by the Whemwhoan ends with a bombardment of their cities. Under threat from the Klingons, both planets petition the Federation for protection, effectively ending the war and making both planets protectorates of the Federation.

Mid 2400: Exploration is the Key
The Breaking Point : After two weeks of shore leave in the Trill System where the crew spent time acclimating to their new surroundings, ‘’Ulysses’’ receives new orders to report to Task Force 72. With independent factions popping up throughout the area of space formerly occupied by the Star Empire, the crew are to open up diplomatic channels with these new groups. The mission is put on hold, however, when Starfleet Intelligence contacts the ship, sparking a crisis of confidence in one of their best and brightest crewmates. Lieutenant Prida deals with a devastating betrayal when she learns that a Starfleet officer has been killed aboard a prisoner transport by an escaped convict who just so happens to be her brother. With the ship scheduled to join up with the rest of the Task Force for a special mission behind Romulan lines, Captain sh’Elas defies orders and takes Ulysses on the hunt to bring closure to Prida, and her brother to justice. Their mission is complicated, however, when they track down the Runabout buried deep in a crater of an ice moon. Their findings show the Runabout to be the victim of a Miradorn raider, and their target long since gone. Just as the Captain prepares to continue the investigation at a new location, Starfleet finally tracks the ship down, reprimands sh’Elas and orders the ship to return to its previous heading and destination, leaving this mystery unsolved.
