Protostar-class Theme

Description

The new Protostar-class corvette is a versatile Starfleet vessel designed for training, scouting, and light exploratory missions. With such an awesome new ship available, we definitely need a theme song for it!

For this competition, you are asked to submit one piece of instrumental music which you believe is most fitting to the this new addition to our repertoire. You are completely free in what kind of music you choose, but you need to write an explanation as to why you chose it.

  • Submissions must include a link to the song and an explanation of your track choice in the competition text box.
  • The song must be available on Spotify, YouTube, or any free-to-access, no login-required music platform.
  • The track explanation is a reflective piece of writing. It should explain why you chose it.

The instrumental version of Eminem's "Rap God" could make an excellent theme song for Star Trek's Protostar-class starship due to its dynamic, futuristic, and high-energy qualities. Here's why:

Technical Sophistication: The Protostar-class, designed for advanced exploration, mirrors the rapid, complex, and precise rhythms of "Rap God." The song's intricate layers and speed evoke the high-tech and (expirimental) cutting-edge nature of the starship.

Exploration and Momentum: The track's pulsating beats and dramatic crescendos match the excitement and urgency of space exploration. It captures the Protostar's mission to push boundaries and venture into unknown territories.

I have chosen this piece of music because it has that 'Trek' feel from the 90s when we heard the intros to TNG, DS9, and Voyager for the first time. It has strong moments in it where you can imagine a Protostar moving through various points in space (around a planet exploding, passing through the rings of a gas giant, etc.), but it also has soft moments where the ship would safely sail past. The Protostar, being our newest addition, needs a good, strong start but also needs to be seen as the small ship that will encourage the younger generation to enjoy Trek in a mighty way! This piece, though from Air Force One, an action thriller film, would (I think) suit the Protostar as it showcases the Protostar being a ship class that can go on action adventures but also keep to the core of Trek values of space exploration for the better of all.
