Bravo Fleet
Summary
Born at the tail end of the Dominion War, Ryu Jai-Hui’s parents were part of the colonists forcibly relocated by the Cardassian Union to Marva IV from their home planet of Salva II and both became involved in the Marquis resistance movement. Jai’s father perished during the conflict and Jai was born in a Federation Penal camp when his mother was interned.
Jai was raised by his Maternal Grandparents and went on to join Starfleet Academy in 2390 – Majoring in Warp Core Engineering and graduating as an Ensign in 2396.
Jai is currently the Chief Engineering Officer aboard the USS Sacramento.
Appearance
Lieutenant Ryu is of slight build with quick brown eyes and a warm smile.
Personality
Jai is a person of intense, nervous energy – often speaking in quick blurts of information and has a tendency to fidget – his hands constantly seeking some activity to placate his discomfort. Rather than let his borderline OCD/ADHD hinder his career – Jai is a brilliant and intuitive engineer and has a mind that is always seeking stimulation.
Jovial and gregarious, Jai is somewhat awkward in social settings – feeling self-conscious and mawkish – but comes alive when the conversations stray toward his métier.
The ships councilor has suggested that Jai attend Meditation classes with Lt Sorvak in an attempt to calm his frenetic demeanor – thus far this process has not yielded great results.
History
Lieutenant Ryu Jai-Hui is continually disposed to fix what is broken – a legacy of the fractured childhood he experienced, growing up as the only child of Marquis parents. Starfleet provided the focus for his intellect and energy – Jai is a consummate Engineer (so much so that the Junior Engineer’s under his command call him the “Warp-Whisperer” due to his almost encyclopedic grasp of Warp Theory and applied engineering.
Upon Graduation from the Academy in 2396 – Ensign Ryu was assigned to duty with the 4th Fleet & spent his initial posting aboard the USS Sirona. Whilst a Venture – class vessel would be a dream first assignment for any engineer (and Jai did appreciate the elegance of its design), Jai felt that the engineering was too accomplished and yearned for an assignment that would present a real challenge to an engineer of his talents.
So, in 2400 – Lt Ryu Jao-Hui was assigned as Chief Engineer aboard the venerable California – class vessel USS Sacramento. His current and former shipmates may think him slightly mad, but every creak, groan, shift, shudder and glitch aboard the aging Utility Cruiser is as joyous music to the engineer’s soul and he is (more often than not) seen hastening across all parts of the ship and Jefferies Tubes with a toolkit in one hand and a wide smile plastered across his face.
