Andrés Sánchez

Birth and Youth 2370 – 2388

Born in Mexico right from birth it seemed that Andrés Sánchez had a scientific mind. He won a grade school science fair, and helped work on his parents vineyard improving their crop yields through applied science. By high school he had the goal of attending the Vulcan Science Academy, This was the goal he worked towards and did not take part in sports or other recreational activities and was often carrying around a PADD to read on during his free time.

During the summers he worked at his family’s expansive vineyard, and did scientific experiments in his free time. It was working outside with his hands that first got him into shape and when he returned to school he had developed into something of a heart throb.

However he had no time for romance, and was taking extracurricular trips to Vulcan, Mars, Trill, Andor, and other planets to study and see how people lived. He ended up quite cultured having visited so many places by the time graduation neared.

He was denied early entry into the Vulcan Science Academy and while he was accepted into the Trill Science Academy, he got angry, never having actually been rejected in such a way and figuring that he would get to do more hands-on research in Starfleet he applied for Starfleet Academy and was accepted.

Starfleet Academy 2388 – 2392

It was always clear where Andrés’ interests lay. He avoid taking Command, Security, or engineering courses preferring to fill his schedule with science ones. It was only during his fourth, and last year, that he was encouraged to take Command courses and branch out into new directions. This was phrased as challenging himself, to appeal to his innate desire to succeed at any challenges that are laid before him.

During Starfleet Academy he continued to live on the outskirts of Mexico City in his family’s vineyard, where he continued to work during downtime such as the summer. The commuted into San Francisco daily for his courses. During his final year he had an assignment to the Olympic-Class USS Mercy and where he served ably, though mostly fetched coffee for senior officers and doctors.

He graduated near the top of his courses and was sent on his first assignment the USS Freedom.

A Starfleet Officer 2392 – Onwards

Assigned to the USS Freedom a patrol vessels along the Klingon border, Sánchez did not find that the posting offered him a great deal of opportunity to be a science officer. Mostly his duties could better fit into the category of operations than science, and the opportunities to stretch himself were few and far between.

He served increasingly begrudgingly for two years before putting in a transfer request. He was thusly assigned to the USS Amiens doing research near Trill. This posting was much more to his taste and he rose on the ship from a Lieutenant Junior Grade until he left as the ship’s second officer and Chief Science Officer.

He was content to wait for internal promotion but due to a sudden and unexpected mission being chased by the Borg, and a subsequent first contact gone wrong, the USS Seattle required a new First Officer and so he was assigned meeting up with the ship at Starbase 72.
