Appearance
Dal is a petite human woman with blonde/silver hair and blue eyes. She has a compact frame with a few more curves on it than she’d like, but can’t seem to eradicate in the gym. Partially deaf in one ear after the incident that killed her parents, she tends to focus directly on people, and lip reads a good percentage of the time.
Personality
Dal is a no-nonsense sort of person who speaks her mind, often. Blunt and to the point, she can be seen as harsh and abrasive by some, but she is not one to hold grudges. She has a dry sense of humour that can catch people unawares. She has a quick temper, but these days has a good rein on it.
History
Early Life
Dal was born on the wrong side of the law, literally. The daughter of a pair of gun-runners, her childhood gave her a very thorough grounding in the law, and exactly how to escape, evade and otherwise get around it. It wasn’t until she was slightly older that she realised that the adventure that was her daily life was illegal.
Her parents were killed when she was sixteen, in a deal gone bad. She was forced to flee and seek out an elderly aunt for shelter. A retired Starfleet scientist, she took Dal in without question and put her into school. There Dal railed at the new constraints put on her by an academic system she was wholly unused to, but she soon settled in and excelled in her studies.
Given a sense of security that had been lacking previously, Dal grew close to her aunt, and then, when she was old enough, made the decision to follow in her footsteps and join Starfleet.
Starfleet Academy
Dal had a somewhat rocky start at the academy. Thanks to her unusual childhood, she had struggled to integrate with others during the few years she spent within formal schooling, and this continued when she arrived at the academy. Hot headed, she got herself into trouble on more than one occasion. It was only the intervention of another student on the same track, Keith Anderson, and a friendly rivalry between them that helped put Dal on the straight and narrow.
She repaid that favour the year later when there was an accident during a routine training exercise and Keith was badly injured. Dal spent most of her off-duty hours bossing and nagging Keith during his physical therapy and he returned the following semester.
Starfleet Career
Dal completed the rest of the Academy without incident (that her instructors knew about anyway) and was assigned to the USS Talavera as an ensign in the security department. Over the next few years, Dal worked her way up through the ranks, eventually ending up as the Assistant Chief Security officer on the Talavera. A reassignment to the USS Cosimo brought with it the role of Chief Security officer, and eventually she rose to become Executive Officer.
After a successful tenure as Executive Officer of the Cosimo, she was offered command of the USS Iceni. In the years that followed, the Iceni and her crew proved an invaluable asset wherever they were assigned. During the events of Frontier Day, Dal and her older crew were forced to defend themselves against the infected.
After Frontier Day, and with the USS Iceni so damaged it was taken out of service, Dal was reassigned to Task Force 93 in the Fourth Fleet as Task Force Executive Officer.
