Summary

Aesha isn’t your typical ship’s counselor. Though she changes her methods based on the needs of the patient, her roots are still very much in the metaphysical. The crew are her boys and girls even if they’re older than her, and she will mother them.

Appearance

Counselor Dawan has long, wiry, wavy black hair that when down reaches her hips. Typically she braids it intricately or twists it into a rough bun or tied with a head scarf. She has warm dark eyes the color of black walnut wood, chocolate colored skin and dainty bone structure. Aesha stands at 5’2″ and is built like a dancer.

Personality

The quintessential mother, Aesha considers herself to be a giver of life, knowledge and compassion despite being unable to birth any children of her own. She is a wellspring of mirth who is always reminding others to slow down, breathe and live in that moment. She is the type of woman who still cooks the old fashioned way and often invites others to come join her for a family meal, ask about their families, their dating life, fix their hair or straighten a collar. In odd contrast, though, she typically carries a small knife on her person.

History

Aesha was eight when her family fled India to Nepal in order to escape the overwhelming hardships facing the population at the time. Her family split apart not long after, with her mother taking her and her father taking her two brothers in order to ensure that they were safe from retribution after something terrible that her father and older brother did just before they fled.

She and her mother Tamia changed their names, their ways, their beliefs and eventually settled in Bhutan where they worked together to build a reputation for fine weaving. While they worked very hard, Aesha’s mother enrolled her in a much less conservative school where Aesha could decide for herself who and what she would be. Her voice started small at first, then grew loud for a long time before finding the perfect pitch of grace and confidence. She was an excellent student and finally a happy child even if she never did see her father or brothers again.

Her calling was discovered early on: she wanted to be a healer. Someone who helped others grow with their words and actions. A helper. A gardener. She found her direction when she met a clearly pained man who had once served Starfleet before a terrible ordeal deemed him unfit for duty and sent him home. The look in his eyes reminded her of her fathers. She’d promised her mother that she’d never return to Punjab, but she’d never said that she would stay out of the battle.

When Aesha applied for Starfleet she used her real name in a quiet act of defiance. It was the first of many small freedoms that she took for herself as she continued to grow.
