James is a very stoic yet outgoing character. He can enjoy a nice conversation with a crew mate while transforming into a calm and decisive officer as soon as the need arises. He takes his duties and service to Starfleet seriously but is not without his charms on and off duty. His background and stoic personality finds that he bottles up his emotions and does not find it easy to confide in people. Especially one’s he has not known for that long.
|James Edward Hood was born in the city of New Orleans as the son of a Starfleet cadet and human doctor. He was brought up in the lively city under his mothers care for four years until his father graduated Starfleet Academy. Afterwards they were bound for space, living aboard the many vessels his father would go to serve on. This was not a first for the Hood family however. Indeed, the Hood family had a long history of naval officers in human history. Dating all the way back to Earth’s Age of Sail the Hood’s have served into the various navies of the world and later in space under the Federation’s Starfleet. His father was simply following his grandfather and the one’s before him. The same tradition young James would come to follow.
His father instilled in him the honor, respect and loyalty expected of a officer and James followed his fathers teachings religiously. The man was a mentor and hero in his young sons eyes. They would move from ship to ship, traveling all across the Beta and Alpha quadrants as they learned and experienced new things. James was able to see new aliens, cultures and even conflict up close. It melded him and taught him to be elegant in his dealings with others but also cautious and guarded. His etiquette would impress many as would his intelligence and care for those around him. He had a sister a few years younger than himself. Her name was Anna and James cared for her like an older brother should.
When he came of age James departed his fathers ship, now a Captain of his own vessel, and was bound for San Francisco, Earth. He was going to the Academy while the war with the Dominion raged on. He took his sister along with him as she planned on joining in a few years as well. During his studies as a tactical officer, James would lose both his mother and father to the Jem’hader. This was something that would change his life forever. At first, he took to the academy with an almost reckless regard. His fathers teachings falling away as he partied and enjoyed himself without the restrictions of a starship stopping him. But after his father passed something changed in him. He became determined and diligent and was keen in his studies and intent on making his father proud. His sister joined up after him in his third year.
After graduation, he served on board a starbase for a year as an Ensign before catching the eye of the commanding officer. The CO was a close friend to his late father and saw in James a determination to succeed and be his best. On his recommendation, James returned to Earth and underwent the dreaded Advanced Tactical Training Course. It was the hardest thing he had ever gone through but the reward for completing it was beyond measure. He came out of the experience a Lieutenant Junior Grade and had the respect of his peers and even those above him. The next few years he would serve aboard two other various vessels, the USS Pembroke and the USS New Orleans, where he held stations such as Asst. Chief of Security and later Chief Tactical Officer. All his fellow officers and commanders would report his diligence and care for those around him. Indeed, after his fathers passing he developed a close protection for those around him. A need to protect those he felt close. He took safeguarding his crew and Captain specifically with heartfelt interest. His sister followed in his shoes and now serves as a operations officer on board a science ship deep in Federation space. Where she is safe thankfully.
Now at the age of 32, James is a recently promoted Lieutenant Commander and has been given his first chance at command. To serve as Executive Officer aboard one of the few Ascension-class carriers. He did not miss a beat in accepting the offer and is making plans to join his new crew before they set out on their first mission. He looks forward to meeting and serving alongside them. Especially his new Captain seeing as he will be held to an additional set of expectations and excellence in his new station. He just hopes he can live up to his fathers name.
