Summary
Zenobi is a skilled helmsman who can easily perform any position on the bridge. He has studied engineering as well as strategy and tactics, making him somewhat of a jack of all trades. He is often reprimanded for a lack of subtlety in battle, as he prefers a full-frontal assault with the maximum amount of force that can be mustered. Favoring combat over negotiations, his suggestions for action can be somewhat laughable. He rarely takes anything seriously but prefers to approach most situations with his unshakable sense of humor.
Appearance
Zenobi generally chooses to wear his black curls long and maintains a well-trimmed beard. He has the dark skin and eyes traditional for his race, and is of average height and build.
Personality
Zenobi’s offhand charm often serves to hide his more mischievous side. With several years of service at the side of Darius Thatch, he bears the brunt of many of the Chief Engineer’s jokes and has developed a tough skin. He and Darius make quite a pair in the bridge room and can be both equally humorous as well as frustrating for their commanding officers. As a joker with a heart of gold, he is generally well-liked by those he comes into contact with, although Darius seems to bring out his more uncouth side. A quote that would best define his personality is, “If my mouth is moving, I am likely joking.”
History
Born to a wealthy family, Zenobi had all he could desire growing up as a child. His father was a professor who taught science at a prestigious university and his mother was the VP of security for a global banking chain. With two wealthy parents, young Zenobi wanted for nothing. Nothing, that is, other than time with his busy parents. Raised primarily by private tutors and nannies, Zenobi was not close with either of his career-consumed parents. Kept mostly indoors with instruction to dedicate to his studies, Zenobi did not experience the normal social life that most children have when growing up. Yet an endless supply of books and physical instruction was not enough to keep Zenobi’s mind entertained.
Zenobi had a brain that seemed to be an endless sponge, sucking in information at an almost alarming rate. It was quickly discovered that he had a photographic memory, and his tutors were constantly scrambling to keep his overactive mind entertained. He seemed to easily master any challenge they threw at him with a bored yawn afterward and roving eyes that searched for the next thing to entertain him. To the horror of his parents, he soon found both entertainment and social interaction in a hobby he became addicted to… video games. His parents saw it as a pastime that would contaminate his brain and tried to keep him from it, but his nannies gave up on attempting to control him, and with his parents rarely present there was no one to discipline him.
Games allowed him to meet people from all over the globe and expanded the horizons of his world, teaching him many things he would never have learned from within the confines of his home. It was his online friends who first introduced him to the idea of joining Starfleet, and although it was not the ideal route his parents would have chosen for him, they consented to the plan hoping it would help him grow to become a more disciplined and distinguished man. Those hopes never quite became a realization.
Zenobi certainly sailed through the academy, passing every course with ease and achieving high marks in his studies, but he continually approached every situation like a game, with an almost reckless level of playful humor. After graduation, he was quickly snatched for a position in engineering aboard a Federation vessel, but soon grew bored with that and volunteered for a tactical position. This entertained him for a time, but then he desired to work in security. In a short amount of time, he had skipped from several different positions aboard various Starfleet ships, turning his record into a hodge-podge of career choices. This skipping around made captains begin to shy away from accepting him, desiring a dedicated officer for positions aboard their ships, and soon he found himself among the black sheep of Starfleet who found it difficult to find a position aboard a ship.
This is when he found his way onto the USS Effrenus. The diversity of his talents was quickly noted and he was given a position to work towards the posting of Helmsman, a job which the captain realized would be a good fit for his extensive skill set. Once he was in the Helmsman seat, he settled down into a job that he grew to thoroughly enjoy as he was given the freedom to assist in a variety of areas. Then when Darius Thatch came to the bridge crew as the chief engineer, Zenobi settled into his calling as he found in Darius a willing accomplice to his boundless humor. When the Effrenus group was disbanded, he was thrilled to be assigned to the USS Tesla with Thatch.
