Nilah Derohl

Early Life

Nilah Virahl was born on February 17, 2378, to Kali and Yilar Virahl on the Trill homeworld. Nilah growing up was a very shy and reserved girl, she chose to study than to make friends. Though her parents would encourage her, it would be years before she would. Her parents hoped that she would one day become a scientist, but they quickly realized she had a real engineering talent. She would study hard, passing all her classes as well as taking some advanced classes whenever she could. She enjoyed taking things apart just to put them back together to see how different things worked or even how she could improve upon the object.

She went on to pass all her classes during her early school years, after entering high school she finally came out of her shell a bit more and made some friends who shared the same interests as her. They would form study groups and take turns going to each other’s house to study, work on projects and even hang out together. This pleased Nilah’s parents to see she was finally making friends. It wasn’t until her junior year that she became interested in joining Starfleet to become an Engineer, both her parents never joined Starfleet but they were not going to stop her if that was what she wanted. She continued to take more advanced classes as well as her regular classes, and would eventually graduate at the top of her class, after graduation she sent in her application to Starfleet Academy and was accepted.

Starfleet Academy

After arriving at Starfleet Academy located on Mellstoxx III, some of her high school friends joined her as well. They continued to do their normal study groups during their years at the Academy. Subjects have become a lot more harder and complex than those she was used to in high school, this didn’t stop Nilah from reaching her goal to become an engineer. She continued to study, take extra courses in just about anything in engineering. She didn’t go out much as she had liked, though her friends didn’t like it and eventually they parted ways after a bit of a disagreement.

Throughout her four years at the Academy, she excelled at just about every course but one where she struggled with. She passed the class but not with a high mark as she had hoped. Nilah decided to give the course another go, making a new friend in the process who helped her get higher marks the second time around. The two would help each other with different subjects they were having difficulty with throughout the remainder of the four years. Nilah graduated from the Academy within the top 10 percent of her class.

Starbase Bravo

Upon graduation, Nilah was assigned to Starbase Bravo as an engineering officer on board the starbase, though her friend was assigned elsewhere. She was excited to start her new journey on such a huge station like the Guardian-class.
