Summary

Bane Plase was born some 53 years ago, in the Earth Standard year of 2346. For the first part of his life, Plase didn’t know anything but oppression, suffering and bloodshed, living under the oppressive rule of the Cardassian Occupation. As he grew older, he fought with the Resistance and eventually drove out the Cardassian forces. Only after the Cardassians had left did Plase attend any formal schooling and education. Everything he had learned, he had learned on the streets. He graduated from the local school systems with honors and was able to apply to Starfleet.

History

2367 – Cadet – Starfleet Academy
In 2367, Plase left war-torn Bajor and headed to Earth, having earned a Letter of Recommendation from Captain Hayden McManus, Commanding Officer, USS Pegasus-D to attend Starfleet Academy, specializing in Structural Engineering. To Plase, it was the happiest and most relieving point of his life up to that point. Even though some of his friends (that were still living at the end of the Cardassian Occupation) ridiculed him for leaving Bajor in her hour of need, he felt justified in going, playing the long game of showing the rest of the Galaxy that the Bajoran People were not someone that needed hand-outs, but did need to be a part of the Galactic Community.

2369 – Cadet – Cadet Cruise
During his Junior Year at Starfleet Academy, Cadet Bane was assigned to the Sabre-class USS Yangtze Kiang. During this tour, he was able to take theory and lecture and apply it to real-world situations and ship-board needs. The experience was invaluable to him. During his tour, he earned three Letters of Commendation, one from Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Brax, one from Executive Officer Lieutenant Commander Alicia Doubleday and, near the end of his Cadet Cruise, one from Commanding Officer Commander Mary May.

2369-2370 – Acting Ensign – Engineer – Akira Class USS Pegasus-D
Due to his exemplary service, high scores and go-getter attitude, Bane was offered the rank of Acting Ensign and the right to be able to finish his last year of Starfleet Academy on a ship-of-the-line. Upon hearing of his promotion to Acting Ensign, Captain McManus of the USS Pegasus-D lobbied for Ensign Bane to be assigned to his ship, which was granted. He served out the remainder of his time at the Academy on the Pegasus, learning under Chief Engineer Lieutenant Rachel Yearly.

2370 – Ensign – Security Officer – Akira Class USS Pegasus-D
Upon completion of his academic studies, Acting Ensign Bane was promoted to the rank of full Ensign, with all the rights and priveledges thereto. Captain McManus and Lieutenant Commander Soren Gadd Montgomery wished to see the young man expand his scope of knowledge and value to the Pegasus and to Starfleet as a whole and transferred him to the Security Division under Lieutenant Jakub Realty. During the mission to Golaron Core in Klingon Space later that year, Ensign Bane was instrumental in saving the lives of three of the five members of an away mission. He was awarded the Starfleet Bronze Star for conspicuous gallantry and bravery. However, Bane did suffer from Survivors Guilt about the loss of the other two members of the away team and needed to seek mental help to get past his demons.

2370 – Ensign – Engineer – Akira Class USS Pegasus-D
With three weeks of therapy, three times a week for three hours each session and lots of rest, Bane was released back to duty, provisionally. Captain McManus and Lt. Cmdr. Montgomery saw it fit in their wisdom to put Bane back in his division of training and went back to Engineering. He worked hard, if only quietly and often solo. The Chief Engineer, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer gave him time and space to get his feet back under him and to regain his confidence in himself. For the better part of six months, his work and social interaction improved, and by the end of the sixth month, he was, for all intents and purposes, back to himself. He was thriving once again.

2370-2373 – Ensign – Acting Chief Of Security – Akira Class USS Pegasus-D
Near the closing days of 2370, Lieutenant Realty decided to resign from Starfleet. At the next layover, at Starbase Earhart, Realty departed the Pegasus and Starfleet, and a whole new crew of Security was posted to the ship. Lieutenant Commander Montgomery, worried that none of the new officers and crew of Security knew the ship, tapped Ensign Bane to act as Head of Security for the ship, a position that Bane reluctantly accepted, given his very personal and very recent experiences in Security. In 2371, Bane was promoted to Lieutenant junior grade and elevated to Chief of Security, and remained at this rank and position until March, 2373. During his tenure as Chief of Security, Bane led more than a dozen away missions, gaining experience in command and control and earning the admiration and respect of the officers and crew of the USS Pegasus-D.

2373-2375 – Lieutenant (jg) – Acting Executive Officer – Akira Class USS Pegasus-D
In July 2373, Captain McManus took an undetermined amount of leave from the Pegasus and of Starfleet, effectively going on sabbatical, due to suffering from mental exhaustion and other mental ailments, later suspected of the strain and loss of the idealic Federation due to the start of the Dominion War. Starfleet allowed him to remain in official command of the Pegasus, but put the ship under command of now-Commander Soren Montgomery. Officially, he was still the Executive Officer, but until such time Captain McManus returned, he would be in command. Over the years, the friendship, trust, admiration and respect between Montgomery and Bane had grown deep and close. In his first official act as Acting Captain, Commander Montgomery promoted Bane to the position of Acting Executive Officer, even though he was still only a Lieutenant junior grade. In the first several months of holding this position, Bane was met with considerable resistance and insubordination from many of the officers aboard the Pegasus that outranked him, but Bane showed patience and neutronium-strength will. Over time, the officers that resisted him in his position eventually came to renew their respect and admiration in the young Bajoran officer.

2375-2379 – Lieutenant – Executive Officer – Akira Class USS Pegasus-D
On Janurary 1st 2375, Starfleet Command contacted the Pegasus and informed Commander Montgomery that Captain McManus had been found dead in him home in Wyoming, a result of suicide by hanging. On that day, Commander Montgomery was put in command officially of the Pegasus. It was a hard day for the officers and crew that had served under Captain McManus. Two days later, Commander Montgomery promoted Bane to full Lieutenant and put him permanently in the position of Executive Officer. Over the next four years, Commander Montgomery and Lieutenant Bane would lead the Pegasus on many missions, including First Contact with three civilization, the survey and mapping of a dozen star systems and the cataloguing of 28 nebulas. In addition to all of the science and understanding they brought to the United Federation of Planets, they were also instrumental in six engagements during the Dominion War in the defense of the Federation and her allies. Early in 2379, Bane was promoted to Lieutenant Commander, a day which Bane is exceedingly proud of to this day.

2379-2381 – Lieutenant Commander – Commanding Officer – Akira Class USS Pegasus-D
In October of ’79, now-Captain Montgomery took leave from Starfleet to focus on his passions. To prevent another command issue on the Pegasus that happened six years earlier, Starfleet decided to award command of the Pegasus to Lieutenant Commander Bane, provisionally until when and if Montgomery returned from leave. Due to his relative inexperience in command, Starfleet assigned the Pegasus to routine patrols and survey missions, all of which Bane and the Pegasus crew performed admirably. Life on the Pegasus was routine and comfortable. It had become an easy ship to be posted to, a posting that went to a great deal of fresh Ensigns from the Academy, or to long-standing veterans of Starfleet on the cusps of retiring. However, all this changed two years into Bane’s command of the ship, almost to the very day. During what should have been a routine supply run to Pentara IV, the Pegasus was ambushed by The Syndicate. The Pegasus put up an incredibly valiant fight in an overwhelming situation, but was out-gunned and out-captained by The Syndicate. Bane and his crew gave it everything they got, as did the Pegasus herself. It was only when deck five completely collapsed, in effect splitting the ship in two did Bane give the order to abandon ship. For two days, he and the remnants of his crew floated helplessly in space before rescue arrived. For bravery and gallantry in battle, Bane was awarded the Starfleet Silver Star. Unfortunately, the USS Pegasus-D was lost.

2381-2382 – Lieutenant Commander – Court Martialed – No Assignment
Per Starfleet regulation, once a ship is lost, the Commanding Officer must be court-martialed and a full investigation conducted to determine if any negligence or maleficence on the part of the Captain in the destruction of his or her ship. In addition, investigation was launched to determine if the Captain did all he could to get all surviving members of the ship to safety before the Captain departed the ship. For almost a year, deliberations, testimony, allegations and evidence was reviewed and conducted on the final mission of the USS Pegasus-D. Many surviving officers and crew of the Pegasus testified on behalf of Lieutenant Commander Bane. Sensor records, recovered ship and personal logs as well as Bane’s exemplary service led the tribunal to find Lieutenant Commander Bane absolved of all charges. The tribunal went on to recommend that Lieutenant Commander Bane be reinstated to active space service, and to promote him to Commander.

2382-2385 – Commander – Commanding Officer – Nova Class USS Bloembergen
Commander Bane and the surviving senior officers of the Pegasus were reassigned within the month of the end of the Court-Martial to the Nova-class USS Bloembergen. With a crew of 80 people, the command was significantly smaller than his previous command, but this one felt different. To Commander Bane, he had earned this one instead of being shuffled into the position due to his senior officers leaving. For the next three years, Bane and his crew enjoyed peace and really got to do what all of them had joined Starfleet for, to explore strange new worlds and to seek out new civilizations. He enjoyed his time greatly on the Bloembergen, being an explorer. The Captain and crew of the Bloembergen were the first in the Federation and her allies to see twelve new star systems, one new advanced civilization and were responsible for charting 4 sectors of space in the three years he commanded the vessel.

2385-2399 – Captain – Commanding Officer – Sentinel Class Prototype USS Sentinel
In August 2385, the USS Bloembergen was ordered to the newly rebuilt Utopia Planitia orbiting Mars. He arrived on his birthday, August 18th, and to his great surprise, was promoted to Captain and given command of the Sentinel-class USS Sentinel, a capital ship and the first of her kind. It was an extremely proud day for now-Captain Bane. The Sentinel would be the test-bed for several new technologies, including several new technologies that were born from the return of the USS Voyager from the Delta Quadrant in 2378. With this assignment, things would not be as smooth sailing and comfortable, nor as exploratory in nature as was his command on the ill-fated Pegasus or the USS Bloembergen. For the first year of his command, it was largely a shakedown cruise. More than several times they had to be towed back to Spacedock due to failure of major systems or the incompatibility of new technologies with old legacy technologies. When they finally got their ship running smoothly, the Sentinel was assigned to a particularly volatile area beyond the Dyson expanse, to try and bring peace and stability to the region. To the crew of the Sentinel, it seemed like they were putting out more brushfires, infighting and clan upheavals than they were bringing peace to the region. For thirteen long years they were assigned to this region, finally bringing the long-awaited peace that the Federation  Council had over-promised and the Sentinel had to deliver. Captain Bane and crew were awarded the Presidential Starship Citation device, an extremely high honor for a starship, and a huge piece of information to be put into a service jacket. Upon refitting and overhaul a McKinley Station, the Sentinel was sent on a classified mission for Starfleet, taking almost a year to complete. For the entire year, the Sentinel was on communication blackout, and even today, details of the mission are classified Top Secret. Upon return of the Sentinel in December 2399, the ship was scheduled to go into mothball. Over the preceding fourteen years, more than two-dozen Sentinel-Class starships were built, with far advanced technologies and capabilities. Starfleet had decided it was too difficult and far too resource intensive to bring the ship up to modern levels. The crew was, unfortunately, dispersed with some retiring, others resigning their commissions, and the rest, like Bane, being reassigned.

2399 – Current – Captain, Commanding Officer, Nebula Class USS Cygnus
From December 2399 to August 2400, Bane was assigned to command the Nebula-class USS Cygnus, finally getting back to his roots of science and exploring.
