Summary

Jordan Luke Duncan-Court, formerly known as Jorgeh, is the adopted son of Captain Max Duncan-Court and Commander Tobias Duncan-Court. The eldest son, Jordan, was rescued by the crew of the Odyssey when an alien ark kidnapped a large proportion of the adult population in 2399. He became a Federation citizen in early 2400 and later applied to Starfleet Academy. As a cadet, he is a member of the training unit assigned to the USS Odyssey. In mid-2400, the crew changed his identity to protect his (and his brother’s) natural heritage from being killed by the Hazari. Starfleet updated his records to reflect that he is the biological offspring of his two fathers.

Appearance

Jordan is of average size (for a Human) for someone his age. His eyes are very pale blue, while his brown hair has some light tinges. Jordan isn’t someone who wears anything fashionable, but since becoming good friends with Alfie McCallister-Reyas, he has taken cues from him. This includes his hairstyle, too.

  • Height: 5′ 9″ (1.75 m)
  • Weight: 169 lbs
  • Hair: Brown
  • Eyes: Blue

Personality

A very caring and sensitive soul, Jordan has shown how important relationships are to him since the crew rescued him. Though he was confident enough during the Quirennal crisis and was keen to remain with his adoptive parents, this entire experience has traumatised him. Jordan has tried to stay positive since settling in on the Odyssey

Strengths & Weaknesses

Jordan has shown great strength and eagerness to adjust to his situation and settle into his new life. He has found the stability of his two fathers and new family as a source of strength in coming to terms with the trauma of what happened to him. Wearing his heart on his sleeve, Jordan can sometimes be seen as vulnerable in seeking new relationships and establishing his new life. His vulnerability was evident when he got confused by his friend, Alfie, not telling him the whole truth about his affair with Jordan’s girlfriend (Beatrice Grant). Jordan’s misunderstanding got worse when Alfie doesn’t explain himself properly, and Jordan thought that Alfie had romantic feelings for him. However, after sorting out this mess several weeks later, Jordan admitted that he had developed feelings for Alfie (of which Alfie had done the same thing). The two decide to be together, and Jordan depends on Alfie emotionally.

After discovering what the Quirennal’s AI (who was using the brainwaves of his mother) had done by killing its crew, including the children on it, to save him and his brother, Jordan carries the guilt with him. When the opportunity to change his identity was presented to him, he jumped at the chance and was keen to remain ‘Jordan’ and not ‘Jorgeh’. It was almost his way of closing away the pain and focusing on his future.

Ambition

Jordan’s eagerness to forget his past and focus on what his future could hold him is quite an overwhelming attribute. As such, he has shared his desire to follow in his two fathers’ footsteps by joining Starfleet.

Biography

Early Life

Little is known about Jordan’s early life; his memory from this time is unclear. From what he does remember, he partially recalls his birth mother (Captain Jyslanti) being a caring woman and a devoted mother to him and his brother.

When the crew of the Odyssey rescued him, he and his brother were taken out of cryo-stasis after they discovered the ship, the Quirennal, drifting in open space in the far reaches of the Delta Quadrant. Described as an ark initially, the crew investigated the vessel and believed they had found the remains of a lost civilisation. Interacting with the ship’s AI holographic/isomorphic projection, based on his mother, the crew discovered that the Ryslanti had sent its people out on these large vessels to ensure they survived. When this took place, the crew were unable to determine. That said, the AI’s determination to proceed with its mission was apparent when it kidnapped most of the Odyssey’s adult population after demanding they care for the children and young people. As the Quirennal possessed advanced technology, even more cutting-edge than the Odyssey, the crew could not initially stop the AI.

After waking up from his long time in stasis, Jorgeh (as was his birth name) found it hard to accept the AI’s control of what was happening. This was especially hard for him when it was impersonating his mother. Feeling that his mother would not have taken others as prisoners to care for the young people, Jorgeh refused to try to have any relationship with the AI. Instead, he and his brother built a close bond with Max Duncan and Tobias Court. The two officers were made the carers for the two brothers. They lived together on the ark for over two months and became a close unit. During this time, Jorgeh endured nightmares most nights but was able to deal with them thanks to his two ‘fathers’.

When they were eventually rescued, Captain McCallister agreed to take all of the children and young people with them back to the Odyssey. However, when the transporters were engaged, the only life signs detected (besides the missing crew) were those belonging to Jorgeh and Wylem. Further investigation discovered that Quirennal’s AI had used its advanced holography and other systems to project imagery of the children and young people who had initially resided on the ship. When the AI had been confronted with maintaining its systems, it had opted to allow its crew (including all of the other children) to die in their stasis chambers while only saving Jorgeh and Wylem. In his last moments escaping from the ark, Jorgeh screamed at the AI for betraying his mother’s memories and was pleased to leave the nightmare behind him.

When Odyssey returned to the Federation, Jorgeh and Wylem’s request to become asylum seekers was initially accepted. Duncan and Court had agreed they wanted to adopt both lads as their sons after building such a close bond during captivity. After an assessment by the Federation Displaced Agency, it was felt that the adoption was appropriate, and through this, both became Federation citizens.

Jorgeh, like Wylem, attended regular therapy sessions alone or with one of his fathers. This helped him immensely in coming to terms with his trauma, but he showed great eagerness in wanting to focus on his future with his new family. He showed significant progress through his friendships with his classmates, especially with the captain’s sons, who were of a similar age to him. Alongside this, he became very curious to find out what it would take to join Starfleet.

Starfleet Career

USS Odyssey (NCC-80000)

In mid-2400, Jorgeh showed great skill and talent in his academics. He flew through all his classes and showed his teachers his ability to grasp every concept at a higher level of thinking. His taste for knowledge was immense; he had become an avid reader of most things. Starting to show he could balance his education and social life well, Jorgeh was beginning to have a typical teenager’s life. The stability of his family life and being in the Odyssey significantly impacted his life. He showed interest in joining the organisation when he saw his friend, Alfie McCallister-Reyas, become a Starfleet Cadet. Initially, his parents weren’t sure if this was a good move for him early on. Nevertheless, they relented, but his studies would take longer because he was still under a therapist’s care.

Jorgeh’s application to Starfleet Academy was accepted after receiving a letter of reference from Captain McCallister. He undertook the entrance exam and passed with flying colours. It was decided that it would be best he remained on the Odyssey for now, but he undertook his duties with diligence and enthusiasm.

In mid-2400, Jorgen’s life was threatened when a Hazari attack group tracked him and Wylem down. There was some old contract this Hazari pack had been trying to fulfil for a long time in wiping the Ryslanti civilisation from existence. Taking a gambling move, Captain McCallister made a massive bluff that Jorgeh and Wylem were human. He had stated they were the offspring of both Duncan and Court. Having to prove this to the Hazari, Doctor Sylvexs created a retrovirus to introduce the appropriate genes into their makeup. A genetic pathogen was also used to alter their Ryslanti DNA into Human proteins.

Furthermore, the crew created an elaborate and detailed backstory, showing that both Jorgeh and Wylem were, in fact, Human. Changing their names, Jorgeh became Jordan and took middle names that belonged to his adoptive grandfathers. Becoming Cadet Jordan Luke Duncan-Court (his middle name of Luke coming from Max’s adoptive father, the famed Fleet Admiral Luke Duncan) was like the fresh start he had desired since he was rescued. Once the Hazari had been convinced he was Human, Jorgeh wanted to keep his new name and his Human DNA. As Wylem and he were so determined with this, their adoptive fathers agreed to it after seeking further advice/thoughts from Counsellor Louwanna Horin.

Shortly after that, Jordan was involved in Max and Tobias’s weddings, serving as one of their best men.

In 2401, during the Frontier Days celebrations, Jordan (like every other young member of the crew) succumbed to the plot created by the unholy alliance between the rogue Changeling infiltrators and the last remaining Borg Queen to bring down the Federation by assimilating the younger members of Starfleet. Jordan, as part of an honour guard, was on the Odyssey’s bridge when he became a drone. Like his classmates, he remembers the moment it happened, hearing both his fathers call his name before Max stunned him. After extensive counselling support, Jordan was allowed to return to active training again.

After Frontier Day, Jordan, deciding he needed to do more to be more ‘normal’ as a human, agreed to date fellow Cadet Beatrice Grant. The two became quite the couple among the cadets. At the time, though, Jordan didn’t know that his best friend, Alfie, was having an affair with Beatrice behind his back. After Alfie ended the affair with Beatrice, he tried to admit it to Jordan but made Jordan confused over the matter. Jordan believed that Alfie was romantically involved with another cadet. Somehow, Alfie made the situation worse by confusing Jordan further by making him believe that Alfie had feelings for him. While on a training excursion, the two of them had an intimate encounter, which Jordan initiated. At that point in time, the two agreed that their friendship was more important to risk it by having something more with each other. They decided they would leave it there for now and blamed the whole situation on what happened to them during Frontier Day. A sort of post-reaction of being part of the Collective’s hive mind. Several weeks later, they started a secret romance when they knew they had proper feelings for one another. However, they both agreed they wouldn’t let their new relationship hinder their studies and training.
