Personality
Sterling is driven by a deeply analytical mind. He possesses a sharp, formidable intelligence, though his tendency to obsess over details can occasionally cause him to lose sight of the bigger picture. In his daily interactions, he maintains a warm, polite and approachable posture with colleagues, but he keeps a firm layer of professional reserve, meaning he rarely lets his guard down or forms deep personal connections. Beneath this composed exterior, he is quietly and privately preoccupation with a fixation on the boundary where technology and human existence meet, fueled by a gnawing, persistent curiosity about extending his mind and consciousness beyond the limits of human mortality.
History
Sterling left his small family to study at the Academy after an injury caused him to reexamine his life and answer an inner call to public service. He was driven to improve medical care delivery systems in their efficiency and access models to better serve communities. The officer takes a professional approach in all of his work and endeavors to leave each system he faces better than he found it.
Early Life (2368 – 2398)
Cassian lived with his family and worked in logistics for agricultural enterprises early in life. An industrial accident related to his work left him with a serious injury that took time for treatment and recovery. This experience led him to want to serve others with the same kind of treatment he had received, and he looked to Starfleet for an opportunity to serve.
Starfleet Academy (2398-2402)
He entered Starfleet Academy as an older student who was driven to serve and learn. He excelled in academics but was less successful in applied sciences and tactics courses. Nevertheless, he was notably gifted in the field of health care logistics and delivery systems and particularly interested in how those systems are established and maintained on worlds that are new to modern medicine and science. During this time, Cassian faced existential anxiety about his own mortality related to his injury in his youth and began seeking answers about transfers of consciousness. This led to his drive to research technologies and new advancements in the understanding of the human psyche.
USS Paramount (2402 to Present)
After graduating from the Academy, Sterling has been assigned to the USS Paramount as a command trainee. There, he is charged with helping to interface with new colonies or Federation members in Second-or-later Contact missions where he can help to integrate Federation medicine and science into the cultures the Paramount encounters on behalf of Starfleet.
