Appearance
Eleanor stands approximately 5 ft 8 in (173cm) tall, with a lean athletic build. She has dark chestnut coloured hair and grey-blue eyes.
Her hair is normally worn neatly gathered in a practical bun when on watch, though she usually cannot wait to loosen it in her off hours, letting it flow naturally to her shoulders.
She possesses an understated beauty that has never been enhanced or hidden, looking every bit a career officer; fit, confident and comfortable in her uniform.
Eleanor carries herself with a posture and surety of someone who has spent two decades on starships. She knows the layout of her ship from memory, rarely having to pause at a junction and check for directions. When she walks, she walks with purpose; as if she can visualise her destination ahead and is simply moving from A to B. She doesn’t appear to wander.
Crewmembers instinctively find themselves standing a little straighter when she enters a room, not because she commands it or conveys any measure of fear, but because she projects and inspires professionalism. The crew look up to her as a role model, and as such, echoing the crew’s opinion of the captain, they seldom wish to disappoint.
Personality
Eleanor’s greatest personality strength is her judgement. Her experience over two decades gives her confidence in choosing the right path to meet the requirements of her mandate or mission. When she makes a decision, she commits fully to it, and on the bridge she is the reliability that strengthens the crew’s resolve.
While the Captain might be somewhat unpredictable, Eleanor’s judgement is renowned for always keeping the needs of the ship and crew in mind. If she agrees with the captain’s decision, the crew knows it’s probably the right one. If she objects or suggests another path, the crew dont see it as a weakness in the command structure, merely that she understands the crew and ship intimately and ensures that any objective takes this into account.
In short, Captain Armitage is the engine & power behind the command structure; Commander Pembroke is often the throttle.
Between her and the captain, she is a moral anchor and isn’t afraid to speak up and question a decision when it is appropriate to do so. This might not come as an overt challenge, but rather a subtle reminder when her Captain might not have considered other options.
That being said, her own command ability is just as ruthless. Her confidence in her own decision-making means the crew would follow her to hell and back if she ordered it. She will make a fine captain one day, if she ever develops the desire to earn a command of her own.
