Summary
Growing up in coastal California, Ferris lived their childhood on Starfleet’s doorstep. For as long as they can remember, the skies were always abuzz with the comings and goings of ships – the sidewalks a fast-moving blur of red, yellow, and teal as uniformed members rushed about their business. Every classroom was covered in fleet promotional material. Young friends would act-out their dreams of space and adventure on the playgrounds.
In San Francisco, every moment of every day was painted by Starfleet’s presence. And on each of those days, young Ferris imagined their future among the stars. And after working (and waiting) thru primary school for what seemed like forever, the day finally arrived to apply to the Academy. Which they promptly did!
Ferris was accepted, and elected to pursue the sciences track. For four years, nothing got between them and their studies. They were a bookworm – a very eager and diligent bookworm – and extremely curious. This curiosity led their time at the academy to be very diverse, covering ecology, biology, mycology, agriculture, and even some medicine. Despite working four times as hard as the next student to balance all these courses, this lack of specializing led to a bit of a professional identity crisis. They knew genericness was not a sustainable trait in the fleet, and would need to narrow their trajectory going forward if they were to avoid losing momentum.
Now a graduate and a freshly minted ensign, Ferris is on their way to Starbase Bravo for their first assignment with the Fourth Fleet. The galaxy is now their oyster. There are many journeys and places ahead of them – and this is just the first – but perhaps no place will prove more important in finding then that of their own.
Appearance
Narrow and spring full of life, they are as whispy and animated as a blade of grass in a breeze. Their thick and wild hair brown hair is a balanced paradox of order and chaos. Wide brown eyes take in all the world around them, and an ever present beaming smile signals outward the joy in what they see. Blink and they’ll be somewhere else, Ferris rarely sits still, their energy often only hindered by sleep or the occasional solid object. They don’t just have a bounce in their step – they are the bounce!
Personality
Ferris’ is an eager and bubbly personality. Quick to find joy in the little things, and perpetually in a state of wonderment with the universe. Their interest in the study living things shines bright thru them as a vibrant lust for life. Ferris is social, quick to make friends, and form connections. Tho driven and curious, this can often spill over into daydreaming and distraction.
History
Growing up, Ferris loved the outdoors. From forests, and fields, flowers, and trees – out exploring the world was their favorite place to be. This grew deeper with frequent trips to see animals at the zoo, plant life at the conservatory, and even one to an observatory on a field trip. As Ferris got older, they started carrying a notebook where they’d sketch small drawings of leaves, insects, flowers, and mushrooms encounter during explorations. By their late teens, this habit had grown into proper journaling – documenting and cataloging information, not just for fun but for understanding. In academy, this desire to see and know as much of the word as possible resulted in them jumping between and cramming as many different life science studies as feasibly possible.
