Liz Nelson

Elizabeth “Liz” Nelson is a Starfleet officer serving as the Executive Officer on the USS Atlas. A gifted engineer who later transitioned into the command division, Nelson’s keen intellect and practical insight have made her an asset to any posting she is assigned to. Encouraged by her closest friend, Romen Corbin, to broaden her horizons beyond engineering, she discovered a natural aptitude for leadership and strategic thinking. Throughout her career, Nelson has declined several prestigious opportunities, including teaching at Starfleet Academy, leading major design initiatives for new starship classes, and commanding her own vessel attached to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers. Her loyalty to her crew and to Corbin defines her service.

At first glance, Elizabeth Nelson appears friendly, composed, and unfailingly polite, with a wicked sense of humour that can light up even the most tense of briefings. She enjoys new challenges and experiences, often greeting them with characteristic enthusiasm, exclaiming, “Such fun!” or “This is delightful” in moments when others might groan. Beneath her charm, however, lies a razor-sharp, no-nonsense officer who does not hesitate to put someone in their place when standards slip. Her sarcasm is infamous among the crew, especially when a junior officer tries to explain a technical concept to her. This is something she, a former engineer and one of the finest in Starfleet, mastered long ago.

Nelson’s intellect is matched by her patience; she takes pride in mentoring younger officers, believing that competence and confidence are built through guidance, not intimidation. She keeps herself informed of the latest engineering and technological advances, partly out of habit and partly out of an inability to fully relinquish her roots. Off duty, she enjoys good food, dry humour, and the occasional glass of red wine shared with Corbin, her oldest and closest friend. The two have maintained their bond since their Academy days, serving as godparents to each other’s children and sharing an unspoken trust that anchors the command team of the Atlas. They begin each day with breakfast together and unwind weekly with a competitive, and often loudly contested, game of velocity.

When she isn’t working or sparring with Corbin, Nelson indulges her creative side. She is a talented pianist and saxophonist, frequently found in the ship’s lounge performing impromptu sets. She also enjoys cooking, poker, and horse riding, and she maintains a private collection of paintings and sculptures that reflect her appreciation for culture and craftsmanship.
