Summary
Jan Mason is Captain Conrad’s trusted right hand, having previously served as his XO aboard the Reliant – class USS Omaha, before following her friend and mentor aboard the USS Speedwell, to serve in the same role.
A shrewd officer and an intuitive judge of character, it is Mason’s job to know all and everything about the crew under the Captains command and how to motivate them to deliver thier best.
Younger officers learn very quickly that the XO knows all and has ‘eyes in the back of her head’. What they fail to realize is, everyone has been a junior officer once in thier career.
Appearance
Trim and athletic, Jan Mason has the fluid grace and deportment that befits a champion fencer.
Daughter of a prestigious old English family, she was formerly educated at Oxford, before going on to Starfleet Academy. Standing 5ft9ins tall, Jan is in her 40th year, but her age has yet to show. She has dark brown eyes and high cheekbones that are mantled by a fringed French – bob of brown hair.
Personality
Jan Mason is no one’s fool and seems to anticipate the crew’s minor transgressions before they even put a foot wrong.
A former Starfighter Pilot, Mason is highly motivated, self-aware and tenacious.
She has been friends with Jim Conrad for many years and the pair enjoy a platonic relationship when off duty, born of a genuine mutual trust and respect.
Janet is a keen fencer and makes sure she trains daily on the holodeck. Accordingly she has a rapier – sharp whit.
