Bravo Fleet
Summary
It’s immediately apparent that Manolito “Manny” Gutierrez was formerly a drone of the Borg Collective, the tell tale signs of his assimilation still mark his flesh and it is reasonable to assume that the hidden scars of his time before and after his liberation run more than skin deep.
A quiet and intense man, Lieutenant Gutierrez underwent intense and comprehensive rehabilitation to earn back his Starfleet commission and return to active duty and is painfully aware that his status as a former drone cause apprehension and mistrust in many of his colleagues.
He serves aboard the USS Athena as its Chief Tactical Officer and is able to utilize some of the extant Borg – technology that still threads his body, but has been cleared by Starfleet, to integrate with the ship’s tactical – systems, giving him an incomparable edge when engaging hostile targets in Multi – Vector mode.
Appearance
Manny is a Puerto – Rican male in his 57th year, but due to his assimilation by the Borg Collective – where his biological aging process was effectively arrested, his apparent age is somewhere in his early – 30s.
The ordeal of assimilation is still outwardly apparent; Manny has a positronic prosthetic right arm to replace the limb removed by the Borg to house an EM – Probe assembly and manipulator and his face is still marked by metal plating on either cheek that house a number of other implants.
Manny’s skin no longer displays the sickening greenish – black mottled hue of the nanites that infested his body, with his normal Hispanic skin – tone mostly restored.
Manny is still undergoing the long, excruciating process of having cybernetic implants slowly removed and a number of augments (along with the nanites that infested his bloodstream and tissue) have been rendered inoperable by a Starfleet lock-out (highly encrypted) lockout code.
Personality
Understandably, Manny still suffers from the Psychological impacts of long – term assimilation and regularly attends mandatory sessions with the Ships Councilor.
He suffers from a sense of isolation, after being severed from the collective and finds it hard to socialize with is crewmates. He is plagued by nightmares of the Borg and throws himself wholeheartedly into his work as a Tactical Officer.
In this, his implants and singular focus make Manny an excellent Tactical Officer and he is able to passively link to the systems of the Prometheus – class when it separates into Multi – Vector mode, making him a highly valuable asset to Commander Hanley – but also a painful reminder of her late father, who also fell to the Borg at Wolf 359, complicating thier relationship.
History
Part of Admiral Hanson’s ill – fated fleet, Lieutenant Manolito Gutierrez was a young Ensign serving as an Assistant Tactical Officer aboard the Oberth – class Surveyor, USS Bonestell and participated in the Battle of Wolf 359 in 2366 AD, suffering assimilation by the Borg Collective when the ship was destroyed and his escape – pod was intercepted – Manny spend the next thirty years as a Borg – drone, enslaved to the will of the Collective.
Liberated from the Collective in 2396 AD, Gutierrez spent 4 long years being debriefed and rehabilitated from his ordeal, as the numerous cybernetic implants that linked him to the Borg were slowly removed or deactivated.
In 2400 AD, Gutierrez’ commission was reactivated and he resumed his Starfleet career – being posted aboard the Prometheus – class Heavy Escort, USS Athena.
