Summary

T’Lok is a Vulcan serving aboard the USS Tianwen as a Security Officer.

Appearance

Though it’s hard to judge a Vulcan’s age, due to their slower than human aging, T’Lok appears to be a young female Vulcan in her mid-twenties or thirties. She is slightly taller than average and in good physical shape. This makes her naturally slender as her strength is marked by the slender frame and the fact that Vulcan’s strength does not rely on defined muscles as much as humans or Andorians do. She has dark brown eyes, and short cropped black hair. Her skin has a slight coppery hue, a result of her green blood.

Personality

There is little to immediately differentiate T’Lok from other Vulcans, at least in her personality. She adheres to the Vulcan philosophy of keeping one’s emotions under control and thus is quiet even and moderate to the point of seeming almost robotic and devoid of all emotion. A believer in logic, and thinking before making decisions she is careful even tempered, and given to consideration. However on the long, and sometimes difficult to differentiate, comparisons of Vulcans she tends towards physical action more than some of her more cerebral counterparts. She respects authority, and gives it deference, which makes her role in security in Starfleet a natural one.

T’Lok is particularly close with her identical twin sister, who has gone into operations, preferring machines and technical issues to people. T’Lok then is the more “cuddly” and personable one.

History

Birth to the Academy (2870 – 2890)

Born to two Vulcan scientists T’Lok and T’Pak are identical twin girls. They were born and raised on a predominantly Vulcan station orbiting a Vulcan colony. The station was working on a method of preventing the then forthcoming Romulan supernova, trying to run simulations on how it could be avoided. With their parents’ work quite important the two girls were often left to look after themselves. Being ten minutes older T’Lok took responsibility for her younger sister supervising the (slightly) younger girl’s education and doing her best to protect her.

When they were twelve the station suffered a mass causality event when a simulation of the supernova went critical and much of the station was damaged. Starfleet vessels responded to the event and the twin girls were beamed off, but their parents had perished in the accident. The two twins were taken to Vulcan where they moved in with their maternal grandparents.

Given the central role that education plays in a Vulcan child’s life, and how little formalized education the two girls had received on the station they were sent to boarding school on Vulcan to immerse themselves in an educational environment. Leaning from educators, as opposed to a PADD, the girls had difficulty settling in at first. T’Lok especially was spirited and given to being more active than the school was used to.

Eventually she became involved in Suus Mahna, the Vulcan martial art. Going on to become competitive in it, she found it a useful outlet for her aggression.

Both twins applied for Starfleet Academy.

The Academy Years (2891 – 2895)

Accepted into Starfleet Academy on their second year of application, the two girls’ education diverged. T‘Lok focused on tactics, entering the security track while her younger sister studied engineering and operations. Fewer Vulcans took a primary security track, though it had become more common over the years due in part to the fame of Tuvok the security chief from the USS Voyager.

Originally T’Lok struggled with teamwork, used to solo activities and relying on herself or her sister and not anyone else. It took most of the first year for her to become sufficiently comfortable with those that she was not related to in order to see the logic in working with them. Overtime she became what a human might call a “team player” leaning to rely not only on the work product of the few, but the efforts of the many.

After four years at the Academy she accepted a posting aboard the USS Viceroy. It was then that for the first time in their lives the girls had been separated.

Starfleet (2896 – Current)

A series of security posting followed. T’Lok slowly worked her way up the ranks aboard the USS Viceroy, until becoming the Assistant Chief Security Officer. However on Frontier Day she, along with many of the crew were transformed into Borg drones. Responsible for killing the ship’s First Officer when she was changed back to a non-assimilated Vulcan, T’Lok had a large degree of guilt. Though she considered quitting she requested a transfer and was sent to Starbase 72.

She has recently been reassigned to the USS Tianwen as a security officer.
