Summary
Commander Jensen Wing serves aboard the Odyssey-class Heavy Explorer, USS Hikaru Sulu, as the ship’s Executive Officer.
Serving as Captain Shavda’s right-hand, Jensen previously served aboard the USS Hotspur as her former XO, Raveen insisting on bringing him aboard her new command in the same capacity – as she rebuilt the ship’s crew after the previous compliment suffered Borg – assimilation during Frontier Day.
Whilst overdue for his own ship, Jensen is content with the opportunity to serve aboard a Capital ship with the level of prestige & cachet like the ‘Hikaru Sulu’, knowing that in doing so he will have his pick of command when the time comes.
A seasoned, no – nonsense Officer and a staunch disciplinarian – the CO may decide where the ship goes, but Commander Jensen Wing damn – well makes sure that it happens on-time and in good order.
Appearance
Jensen is an Asian male, of Chinese origin in his late 40’s, just starting to show his age, with dark hair and a proud moustache. He has warm, careworn eyes and is physically fit for his age.
Standing 5ft 8ins tall, Jensen nevertheless seems to project a confident impression of being more imposing. A by – the – book officer, Commander Wing is always impeccably turned out and expects a high standard of personal organisation and dress from officers under his command.
Personality
Jensen is an intelligent man and is both physically brave and mentally tacit.
As an Executive Officer, Commander Wing is highly organized and in perfect rhythm with the pulse of the ship’s crew. Nobodies fool, it is an ambitious junior officer indeed that thinks they can try to outwit the XO or thinks he isn’t aware of nearly everything that transpires aboard ship.
Off duty, Jensen is warm and gregarious. His background of being from a long line of restaurateurs means that he is an excellent chef, but those who are not used to the spicy nature of his native Szechuan cuisine had best beware.
Jensen is married – his wife Mae is an elementary school teacher that lives aboard Starbase 72 and together they have three young children, Peter – 11, Ella – 7 and Jun – 4. Whilst Jensen finds the distance between them hard to endure sometimes, he has (so far) resisted his wife’s persistent entreaties to join him aboard the USS Hikaru Sulu, reasoning that the present state of galactic affairs poses an unreasonable threat with which to expose his most treasured people to.
History
Generations of Jensen Wing’s family have grown up in the shadow of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, originally migrants from Szechuan, China who carved out one of the cities most enduring restaurants – it is remarkable, therefore that Jensen is the first and only of his lineage that chose to enter Starfleet Academy.
Born in 2355, Jensen entered Starfleet Academy’s San Francisco campus in 2371 and soon established himself as an able pilot – serving in the Academy’s elite Nova – Squadron display team in his final term.
Graduating as an Ensign in 2375, Jensen narrowly missed serving in the Dominion War – assigned as a Junior Helmsman aboard the New Orleans-class Frigate, the USS Trondheim – seeing extensive Border Patrol and Interdiction duties along the former Demilitarized Zone – he knows this area of space well.
In 2381, a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant saw Jensen serve aboard the Intrepid-class light explorer, USS Armstrong and embark upon a 5 year Deep – space Exploratory mission to the Delta Quadrant. Upon his return, inspired by the prospect of further adventure he transferred to duty aboard the Luna-class light explorer, USS Amalthea, returning to the Delta Quadrant for a second 5-year mission.
In 2391, with the prospect of becoming a father and starting a young family, Jensen took a break from shipboard deployment and took a post aboard Starbase 72 – working with the Strategic Operations division. During this time, he developed considerable experience if fleet command and coordination.
In 2394, with his family well – established, Jensen Wing was assigned to duty aboard the USS Hotspur – meeting Captain Shavda and forging the firm friendship and working relationship that endures until this day.
