Summary
Catriona was recruited to be the Acting Executive Officer on the USS Canterbury following the incident involving the abduction of the ship’s commanding officer. This is her first assignment as Executive Officer, and while she isn’t a career command officer, she was previously the second officer on the USS Cherbourg. She also has extensive experience as the lead diplomat in many negotiations, has excellent people skills and is the kind of person who will do anything to get the job done. And while some of her methods may be considered unconventional, she has always risen to the occasion and accomplished her missions well.
History
Born to parents who were former Starfleet officers and were far too adventurous for their own good afforded Catriona a unique perspective to how the galaxy worked.
Born and raised on Orlana Prime, a distant world on the fringes of Federation space, seeing how her home and her people was able to survive the harsh realities of being a rimworld gave her an appreciation of diplomacy and subterfuge to get her way and minimize conflict. However, rather than pursuing the career paths of her parents who were well known ‘specialty traders’ in the sector, Catriona wanted to become a traveling healer, and after hearing stories of what her parents did during their days in uniform, she became enamored with joining Starfleet to pursue her dreams.
Unfortunately, the warnings her parents gave her on strict rules about the Federation did not prepare her for the harsh culture shock she received early on when she joined the Medical Corps. After a few incidents, and under danger of being separated from the service, she chose to abandon her dreams of being a healer and chose to pursue the path of a diplomat instead.
She was very successful at her job, able to deliver results and accomplish mission parameters better than most of her contemporaries. Although there were some accusations of misconduct in her past assignments, she was cleared of all suspicion after thorough investigations, and deemed an exemplary officer.
Eventually she rose through the ranks, and achieved command qualifications, becoming a resident diplomat and Second Officer on the USS Cherbourg until the vessel returned to port for its scheduled major refit. While in between assignments, she was recruited by Captain Olivia Thorne to serve as Executive Officer of the USS Canterbury in an acting capacity as they dealt with the abduction of the ship’s commanding officer.
Whispers of unusual means she employed to achieve peace and efficiency on board her previous assignments followed her wherever she went but these were deemed nothing more than rumors, and she herself chooses not to respond to the allegations.
Her appointment to the Canterbury is her first as an Executive Officer where once again she finds herself in the deep end with little knowledge of her new assignment, with the only familiar face that of her friend who recruited her in the first place. Yet she views this as an exciting new chapter in her life.
