Greetings, Bravo Fleet!
This is my first announcement since accepting the Bravo Fleet Security Officer (BFSO) seat.
Since my return to Bravo Fleet last winter, I have genuinely enjoyed immersing myself in our community. Admittedly, my journey so far has been quick, as I’ve transversed RPG-writing, fiction writing, competitions, my first Fleet Action and, of course, the wonderful gaming community we have. Serving as Task Force Executive Officer in two different Task Forces afforded me the privilege of getting to know many members and helping them progress in their journeys, especially my recent time in Task Force 21, as we took on many brand new members over the initial weeks post-launch.
There is one aspect of our offerings that has become a favourite of mine, and that is gaming. Bravo Fleet is unique in that it supports gaming as an option for its members. When the BFSO position opened up, I thought intently about my desire to take the seat and why. I’ll admit that I’m not someone who writes prolifically, so the gaming space quickly turned into a way for me to feel like I still belong and contribute in Bravo Fleet through gaming interactions with members – while continuing my activity journey through the ranks/swag of online art-pixels. I am carrying this personal experience forward with me in the BFSO position as I hope to serve the community and ensure gaming retains its presence in Bravo Fleet so others who are like-minded or share in this path can continue to do so.
I wanted to give you all some insight into my vision for where I see gaming is headed in our community, as well as share some departmental-related news offerings.
Gaming
There has been a tremendous amount of growth in the gaming space in the past year within Bravo Fleet, a credit to Starbuck and others supporting the Security Office. The plan is to work hard to sustain these gains while refocusing efforts on gaming that promotes multimember collaboration. Gaming events (nights), supported games that promote joint PvE/PvP play, and interaction within our Discord server. This is where friendships are forged, and the magic happens. We will continue our commitment to fostering an environment where members can share in gaming experiences together.
My vision for gaming moving forward and in the long term within Bravo Fleet is not revolutionary by any means. Gaming opportunities need to be accessible to members. This means taking into account, as best as we can, time zones and the fact that we are spread all over the globe. Gaming opportunities should be equitable as well. Not all members have access to the shiniest new games on the market, so we must consider this when producing policies or gaming opportunities for members. Lastly, the Security Office should aim to be as present as possible during the gaming experiences of members. That could be jumping in to say hello when a member is streaming their content, attending a gaming event that a member is hosting and participating with all involved, and hosting non-formalized game events if members are posting a desire to partake in gaming on Discord.
These basic tenets are what I will use in my leadership approach while holding the office of BFSO.
Staff Changes
First and foremost, please join me in congratulating Mamof on his transition to Task Force 21 Executive Officer. As a result of this transition, the position of Deputy Security Officer has been vacated for the time being. All is not lost, though, as Mamof has agreed to remain with the Security Office as a Staff Officer. I am grateful he will remain on staff to help continue to carry gaming forward in Bravo Fleet along with RaWolfe and me.
New Supported Games
We continue to work on expanding our repertoire of Supported Games in Bravo Fleet. I am pleased to announce that two more games will be added to the list, both of which have been featured in recent gaming events hosted by several Bravo Fleet members.
The Security Office will continue to monitor casual gaming submissions to see if members are playing new games that warrant formal policy support. The team is always looking for other gaming opportunities that support PvE/PvP play among members too. If you have a game you’d like considered for formal policy support beyond our generic casual gaming clause, feel free to reach out to any member of the Security Office.
Gaming Events
The Security Office will be working hard to ensure there are an accessible amount of gaming events for members to take part in. I wanted to remind you all that you can always host your own gaming events as well! You even get a little extra treat for the work should you submit the event within 24 hours after it takes place. If you’re interested in hosting a gaming event for members, please contact me (Annex/ajcm) on Discord, and we can discuss it.
I want to thank those members who reached out to send positive messages of encouragement when I assumed this new role and those who continue to show up and support the gaming aspect of our community. I truly enjoy the moments of laughter and fun we share on the gamingvoice channel, and I hope that there will be many more moments like this in the future.
Happy gaming!
