Intelligence Office Report #2 – Fleet Canon 2402

January 3, 2025

In the heart of the Klingon Empire, new developments stir

This is a quick update to draw your attention to a new mission – a new way of managing fleet canon – for 2025. As outlined in my last report, there will be multiple big writing events over the course of the year. Participation from members is always optional, but encouraged, and writers are particularly free and welcome to tell their own stories outside of these events. Some, however, like the storytelling support they offer, and have expressed interest in more regular opportunities to engage with it.

The 2402 BFMS Mission is the repository of all non-event-based Intelligence Office Stories and storytelling support for 2025. New IO Stories advancing or exploring the state of fleet canon in 2402 will be posted in this Mission. Alongside updates on the wiki, the Mission page will provide a summary of the current pressing issue in the galaxy, and suggestions on how members might participate in it. This summary is non-exhaustive; it refers only to the most pressing and recent galactic developments – currently limited to the Klingon Empire. Over time, it may expand or change to focus on the situation with, for example, the Cardassian Union. This may reflect levels of IC urgency, or simply the Intelligence Office pivoting to encourage exploration of different facets of fleet canon in between events.

Members can, if they may, write Stories based around these new developments. Or they may use them as background detail, referencing the shifting political situation perhaps on the other side of the Federation. Or you do not have to draw from this update at all! Members should feel free and welcome to keep writing whatever original missions they want, whether it’s engaging with other fleet canon in, say, the Deneb Sector Block, or carving out whole new adventures in unexplored deep space, and save their participation with IO storytelling for major events. This is, most simply, here if you want it. You should not attach missions on your Command to the 2402 Mission; simply write as you normally would, referring to fleet canon in whatever way supports your story.

To make this easier, the BFMS Mission highlights how long, OOC, the IO expects the current briefing to be ‘live’ before there is an update, rather than suddenly drop a shocking development when members are halfway through a story. In this case, the current state of affairs should last until early March, at which point we’ll see some new developments. I will do my best to communicate these expectations and timelines with every update.

Welcome, again, to 2402.
