Delta Quadrant IDIC Week: Second Contact

Second Contact is an all-important process during which Starfleet makes sure that the Federation can communicate effectively with a new world, including things like setting up comm buoys, hashing out agreements on Federation citizens visiting the planet, and making sure that they have the planet’s name spelled correctly in the official log. Most of the time, second contact occurs within a few months of first contact, but that wasn’t the case for dozens of Delta Quadrant species.

Your character is assigned to a second contact vessel, hoping to reach out and reconnect ties first started by Voyager but which haven’t been touched in over 20 years. Pick a moment from second contact to describe in flash fiction (under 300 words) inspired by this shot of the USS Cerritos, a starship dedicated to second contact missions.
