TF9’s Ferengi Week: Short Story Contest
Description
Ferengi Week: Short Story Contest
“The riskier the road, the greater the profit.” – 62nd Rule of Acquisition
Task Force 9 operates in an area that shares borders with multiple Alpha Quadrant races, but the Ferengi are our most influential neighbors in the area. Neither allies nor antagonists per se they have frequent trade relations with the many colonies that lie in this region of space. There are many stories to be told here: colonies struggling to get by, discoveries to be made amongst the stars, trade deals around every corner, and valuable resources waiting to be exploited. For this short story contest, describe one of these moments. Give us a sense of what it would be like to be out here on this rough stretch of border, often days away from the nearest Federation ship and left to fend for yourself more often than not
Criteria
- Entries should be a minimum of 1,000 words and a maximum of 3,000 words, exclusive of titles. Because of this length, please put your story into a Google Document and make sure the sharing settings are set to 'anyone with the link can view' and then place the link in the submission box.
- The prompt for this contest is quite wide: any story of life on the Federation's frontier near Ferengi space will be accepted, but all stories must include the Ferengi in some form or fashion.
- Entries should contain a complete narrative with a beginning, middle, and end. Entries will be judged on creativity, style, adherence to the prompt, and appropriateness for the setting. Spelling and grammar will not be important judging criteria but will be used to break ties.
