The Other Side of the Mirror: Writing Competition

Description

A staple from almost all the various Trek Series, the Mirror Universe has offered us a glimpse into a world that is completely opposite of what we know of as the Star Trek Universe. Almost everything about it is twisted, contorted, and sometimes even broken. Every aspect of life is utterly contrary to how we see them in the mainstream of the Trek shows, and though it is often used as a plot device for a ‘story of the week’ break from the norm, the episodes always make us wonder… what if that were what we saw all the time… what if that was our normal?
For this competition, we are going to explore this idea, to make something that featured sporadically throughout Trek history into something of our own. To this end, I submit to you a challenge. Take a character you play (or if you also submitted to the Biography Writing Competition, the character you created for the Mirror Universe) and either write a story about your character being displaced in the Mirror Universe, and what they do to blend in, or Write a Mirror Universe character struggling with how to survive in the Prime Universe. This can be at any point along the established timelines that we saw the Mirror Universe, even if your character wouldn’t normally have been alive during the time period since time travel isn’t just for the Prime Universe. In your writing, explore an aspect of life that you found interesting about the Mirror Universe/Prime Universe, and have the character explore this. If your character is from the Prime Universe, you can always end it by bringing them back to the Prime, and if they are a resident… well… a day in the life, eh?
