Explore the depths of your character’s experience as they navigate the thresholds between life and death

As a member of a Starfleet, your character’s journey takes a sudden turn as they find themselves facing death. Whether it’s a heroic act of self-sacrifice or a random on-screen demise thanks to Janeway’s coffee running out, your character meets their end.

Now, in the afterlife, your character’s adventure continues. Who do they encounter in this realm beyond? Are they greeted by benevolent beings, familiar faces from their past, or perhaps enigmatic entities whose nature defies comprehension?

Is the afterlife what your character expected it to be, based on their beliefs or experiences? Do they find solace in the embrace of long-lost loved ones, or are they confronted with profound mysteries that challenge their understanding of existence?

But wait, the journey doesn’t have to end here – modern medicine and advanced technology offer the possibility of bringing you back. Is your character slated to return to the land of the living? If so, what does this revival feel like? Is it a joyous reunion with their corporeal form, or a disorienting reawakening with existential questions?

Criteria

• Stories should be submitted directly to the BFMS, and your entry should be a link to the published story. Stories should be at least 500 words and no more than 2,000 words.
• Stories will be graded in accordance with the Bravo Fleet Fiction Rubric, which marks on the following criteria: Language, Style, & Mechanics; Adherence to Canon; Perspective; Characterization; Originality; Use of the Prompt.
• This story must be created after this competition opens and before it closes, so there is no reusing of existing stories. This will be judged based on the publication date of the story within the BFMS.
• Your story must be a single-author post, not a jointly written post.
• Using generative AI in this competition is forbidden.
