Welcome to Nature’s Shift! This month, we’re exploring the phrase “April showers bring May flowers” in the realm of the Star Trek universe. Imagine a planet undergoing a rare and mysterious event: a sudden and unexplained change in its climate causing relentless rains, followed by an eruption of vibrant, alien flora.

As a crew member, you’ve been tasked with leading an investigation of this phenomenon and uncovering its cause. Is it a natural occurrence, or is something more sinister at play? How does this sudden change impact the planet’s inhabitants and ecosystem? How do you navigate the challenges of exploring a planet in the midst of a climate crisis while upholding the principles of the Federation?

So, let your creativity run wild and explore the mysteries of this planet and the connections between its climate and flora. Remember, it’s not just about solving the mystery; it’s about the discovery and the impact of your actions on the planet and its inhabitants.

Criteria

  • Stories should be submitted directly to the BFMS, and your entry should be a link to the published story. Stories should be at least 1000 words and no more than 2,500 words.
  • Stories will be graded in accordance with the Bravo Fleet Fiction Rubric, which marks on the following criteria: Language, Style, & Mechanics; Adherence to Canon; Perspective; Characterization; Originality; Use of the Prompt.
  • This story must be created after this competition opens and before it closes, so as not to reuse any existing stories. This will be judged based on the publication date of the story within the BFMS.
  • Your story must be a single-author post, not a joint post.
