Summary
A dry and reserved Vulcan who works as a counselor aboard the USS Redding. For more than a century he worked on Vulcan as a regional administrator, but joined Starfleet in 2370. While in peaceful control of his emotions, he has a fascination for the inner life of the non-Vulcans, which motivates him to work as a counselor.
Appearance
Sakar is a Vulcan of medium height, dark skin, with a large mouth and brown eyes. His hair is black and unruly (an unusual trait that is somewhat prevalent on the peninsula where he was born). Well over 150 years old, he still looks relatively youthful.
Due to an accident, his right leg has been substituted with a cloned limb.
Personality
Sakar is patient, attentive, silent, and logical. He rarely wants to be in the centre of the attention and he puts a lot of care in not giving the impression that he is judging anyone else. He speaks softly, with a deep voice that always seems to communicate a desire to understand.
History
Before Starfleet
Sakar was born in 2260 on Vulcan, shortly after the end of the Federation-Klingon war.
While very gifted in mathematics, especially in statistics, as a child he never connected with the natural sciences that appeal to most of his species; he didn’t pursue advanced studies and entered the Vulcan Planetary Administration.
For 100 years, while Vulcan and the Federation wheeled from crisis to disaster to crisis, Sakar made it sure that the people on Vulcan could arrive where they wanted in time: he came to be a senior Civilian Transport administrator, deciding on the construction and functions of the complex network of shuttles, runabouts, trains, maggrav, orbital lifts, desert skiffs and transporter stations that bring Vulcans from one place to the other.
In 2291 he joined with his bethroted, P’Jil. They had three daughters and even now, while separated by the enormous swathes of space, have a caring and deep relationship.
In 2310 he achieved his Kolinahr.
Joining Starfleet
Boredom, ennui and horror vacui are emotions, and as such played no part in Sakar’s decision to leave his post and joing Starfleet at the age of 110. His was, if anything, the desire for a challenge and for something unexpected.
As a challenge to himself, he decided to explore something absolutely alien and untamed: emotions. He joined the program to become a counselor – the only Vulcan to do so in his year – and applied himself with resolution and determination. He, in particular, studied the writings of Surak and of the early Vulcans (who had to tame their emotions), and has established a therapeutic style that is unorthodox but surprisingly effective.
Obtained his Bachelor and the rank of Ensign, he was posted on the hospital ship USS Fe-rheti NCC-412031 in 2374 – at the beginning of the Dominion war. His ship was one of the most active hospital ships of the war, following several Fleets and assisting after the battles, for instance after the First Battle of Chin’toka.
Made a Lieutenant JG in 2378 at the end of his professional studies, he remained on board the USS Fe-rheti until it was decommissioned; he then was posted on the USS Redding and later on the USS Sternbach.
