Summary

A veteran Starfleet officer, Captain Taviel Daragon has commanded the USS Redemption these past five years. He grew up a member of Kriosian nobility, but Krios’s rebellion against Klingon rule broke out in his young adulthood. After fighting the Klingon Empire for some years, Daragon was forced to flee his home and seek political asylum in the Federation, and was eventually admitted to Starfleet Academy. From there he has served in the Dominion War and every major challenge facing Starfleet for the past quarter-century. He clashed early on with the Federation’s turn from exploration and outreach after the Attack on Mars, which saw him politically sidelined and, while he retained starship command, was kept to inauspicious assignments or left on the frontier for much of the past fifteen years as he stuck to his principles.

Cultured and courteous, Daragon is a strong leader, effortlessly charismatic and with a high sense of decorum and discipline. He is not, however, a particularly studious officer, unversed in matters of scientific inquiry. This, along with his lower-profile assignments the past decade and a half, has earnt him a reputation for being ‘reliable,’ which his detractors usually subtly mean to be code for ‘stupid.’ It is true that he is rarely an innovator, facing problems head-on or relying on more inspired officers to generate ideas and solutions. But Captain Daragon is undeniably an excellent captain, with a true talent for bringing out the best in his crew and harnessing their enthusiasm and ingenuity to see his ship through a myriad of challenges. Returning to the fold with the Redemption’s assignment to the Midgard Sector, time will tell if Daragon’s reputation for being as much of a ‘workhorse’ as his ship is true.
